Forums - Nintendo - How are Nintendo going to win back the 'Core' Gamer?

I'm going to wait and see before I count out the Wii U's graphics as "on par" with the current HD consoles, because it is likely that these games are running at 1080p @60fps vs the sub-720p and below 30fps performance of many HD console games, and I doubt many of the visuals we have seen are representative of what the system can do; on top of that I believe many of the people who are making this complaint would make it regardless of what was demoed, and they would claim that Crysis 2 at 1080p with ultra-high detail was essentially a HD console game.

On the topic of third party support, the developers don't have to "jump ship" and getting significant third party support is probably much easier with this system than with the Wii. Rather than Nintendo having to fight publishers to devote $10 to $20 Million to producing a game from the ground up for the Wii, Nintendo can argue for $5 to $10 Million be devoted to produce an enhanced port for the Wii U; and since this would be used by strong teams to create enhanced versions of good games this money would probably result in better results for everyone.

Every single third party game showed is going to release one year later on the Wii U than on the HD consoles, I fail to see how that is going to help...

Especially as history as shown that late release on one platform usually have bad sales numbers..

Clearly the lineup isn't close to ironed out yet. They didn't even show any 1st party games. And with over a year before release, pretty much every 3rd party game they announce now will be an old port by launch.

Now that I think about it, what are some big 3rd party holiday 2012 titles? I can't think of anything that's already dated.

Haha, I don't think so Maxwell

Don't go locking threads just because they're not pro Nintendo ok? I already cleared this with a mod, it was not flambait at all, Nintendo specifically said 'We will win back the core' and now I'm asking how.

The online thing IS obvious, MS and Sony are 1 gen ahead of them, self explanatory :-S

Except you'd be crying foul all in the mod jobs if something similar is said against Kinect or MS but whatever man it'll be on you and whoever approved this thread if it goes down in flames

No I wouldn't, not everyone defends every move right or wrong their favourite company do ^^ only have to check out my opinions on MS conference this year to see that. I see you rated Nintendo fairly high

And Sony was right behind cause of Little Big Planet finally shown off on the Vita, they succeeded on presenting the concept in a way that got me excited enough to buy a 250 dollar device for it.  You rated Nintendo fairly low and then replied to Cone with falsehoods (which happens when you use absolutes like you used in your statements) just because he gave Nintendo a 9, you know cause they presented new hardware with some third party exclusives, and demos of how new concepts could come to life with the design, there was no real reason to call someone out on that but again it's really whatever no one really cares >_>

I really am puzzled by what I've seen. The graphics are on par with PS360, so no that isn't a box ticked Reggie.

He claims it'll have online but won't talk about it, whatever it is, it won't be better than Xbox Live or PSN for obvious reasons. (MS and Sony being ahead by 1 gen and the massive development it needs, thought this was obvious but some got offended by my lack of no explanation )

3rd party support? Why would core gamers jump ship? Not to mention 720 will likely be shown next E3, for release in 2013, before the WiiU releases, and show a massive upgrade that will really get core gamers excited.

The core aspects of WiiU are already on PS360, and have been for 5/6 years ...

wow what were you watching and thining

1. the graphics are superior already in stuff seen that was showing them off.

2. online can be easily passed up.  psn and xbox live are pathetic online experiences compared to the hudnreds of different kind on computers.  so nintendo could easily have some way to pass them up.

3. the wii u will be out before the other systems.  Thus since they have the multiplat games as well, that means WHEN those systems come out, you will be asking the same thing.  Why get a 720 or ps4 when i c an get all those games on my Wii U.

4.  core aspects?  what core aspects.  you mean it plays games in hd?  the Wii U is about the new controller.  that is what will sell the system.  If the ps4 and 720 come out with only improved cpu and gpu or power they WILL FAIL.

Nothing I said was false, they showed nothing but SS for the Wii, the cafe looks underwhelming, even most Nintendo fans admit this, and getting 3rd party games that have been coming out on PS360 for the last, oh I dunno, entire gen, is not a coup.

While I agree with you, I disagree that cafe looks underwhelming (the product, not the conference about the product). After watching the Zelda Tech Demo, they showcased, I think far from it.

Most of those third party games will have already released on PS3/360 by the time WiiU releases, not to motion there are many more to come only on PS3/360. There is Wii's legacy too. Nintendo is fighting a long-lost battle imo.

all those games people would have played already, and by next year there will be announcements of ps3 and 360 successors. i dont think anyone will jump ship i know i certainly wont as theres no point

...not much time to post anymore, used to be awesome on here really good fond memories from VGchartz...

PSN: Skeeuk - XBL: SkeeUK - PC: Skeeuk

really miss the VGCHARTZ of 2008 - 2013...

seriously those games they showed sure won't be as good as real Wii U games, to me they looked like PS3/360 ports

If it isn't turnbased it isn't worth playing   (mostly)

And shepherds we shall be,

For Thee, my Lord, for Thee. Power hath descended forth from Thy hand, That our feet may swiftly carry out Thy command. So we shall flow a river forth to Thee And teeming with souls shall it ever be. In Nomine Patris, et Filii, et Spiritūs Sancti. -----The Boondock Saints

Far too early to be judging now but if they are capable of 360/PS3 graphics as first gen games but at 1080p/60fps then we are in for a sort of treat until the next-box and PS4 come out.

So why are people making the assumptions that the games that will release with the system have already been announced? I doubt third parties are only planning on releasing ports for the system. Chances are that they are adapting the games they have in development now for the Wii 2 since it's much easier than going straight into developing for the Wii 2 specifically, with the limited time they've had with it(I doubt it is more than a few months.) Like every generation there will be many ports of games in development for the current/previous generations before the bulk of the new software is released. This happened with the 360 and PS3 just the same as it is going to happen with Wii 2, and if they're announced soon enough PS360's successors. We have yet to see any announcement for Nintendo first party games, and with a Nintendo console that is what MATTERS in my opinion.

Their controller has a screen on it.

this sums it up.

MikeB predicts that the PS3 will sell about 140 million units by the end of 2016 and triple the amount of 360s in the long run.
