It's not so much as they lost this year as they never decided to compete. They had an agenda, make a big deal out of Kinect and stick with a few core games, and they fulfilled it.

Love and tolerate.

MS' show was fine, but quite frankly Nintendo already preemptively "won" this E3 the second they announced their new system.

I mean, Bing voice search across all streams of media on Xbox Live will sell more 360 units than any bombshell "exclusive". With this lineup and features, Kinect will annihilate this holiday season.

You think people will pay hundreds of dollars just to have voice search?  Why?  That doesn't make any sense.

e3 is for the hardcore not for the kids. thats why focusing on kinect will ofcourse make them loose e3, if they dont put many surprises.

halo one remake was good even thought it was expected, then their was halo 4. thats not enough to win e3.

It isn't a popular opinion around here since we are all pretty much core gamers, but I am going to disagree.  E3 is the one time of the year that the regular media will actually pay attention to the game industry.  Now is a good time to try and hit the "casuals".  The core won't like it, but you could announce something like Halo 4 on some random Tuesday in the spring and everyone would know about within a few days.

The core does need to be catered to some, but their tastes are not the be-all-end-all of gaming.

E3 is a show. Companies show off their products. There are no prizes, no real awards, the company with the "best" show may not be the one with the best sales. E3 is not a competition, there are no losers or winners.

That being said, everybody knew going into this that Microsoft would have a less than exciting E3 this year, short of something amazing and unexpected. Sony will probably be predictable as well. (or already was? I'm not really keeping up minute-to-minute. or even hour lol) Nintendo could be very interesting, we'll have to wait and see.

After being on the market for 6 years most of what Microsoft could show for the XBox 360 is a sequel to a game series that has already had (possibly multiple) games released that look and play practically the same. Without the announcement of a new add-on or a new system Microsoft's conferences are going to become more and more dull and predictable.

Pretty horrible conference from Microsoft - no megatons or "wow" factor at all.

Megatons from Microsoft= stealing sonys third party exclusives.

That was an awful conference but not an 08 Nintendo or 06 Sony awful ... just a dissappointing awful.

Fable Sequel, with horse riding simulation? The same 4 games year after year? Nothing original?

Sure is high standards here.

“When we make some new announcement and if there is no positive initial reaction from the market, I try to think of it as a good sign because that can be interpreted as people reacting to something groundbreaking. ...if the employees were always minding themselves to do whatever the market is requiring at any moment, and if they were always focusing on something we can sell right now for the short term, it would be very limiting. We are trying to think outside the box.” - Satoru Iwata - This is why corporate multinationals will never truly understand, or risk doing, what Nintendo does.

Hell no, I think they did great this year!
