Forums - Politics Discussion - Britain Loves President Obama

The comparison's are unfair. Bush visited under war which many of us disagreed with, his poilicies were the opposite of our then government (conservative, we were more socialist) and well, to many he just seemed like the american illinformed fool (whether or not he was).

Obama may not have installed or changed the US in a dramatic way USAians may have liked but he had a financial crisis to deal with, one not of his making or in his presidency but he dealt with it none the less even with the disproval this caused. I agree with many of the reasons Kantor mentioned before, his does have a dominant presence and a positive one at that.

But then what do I know, I (and a fair few of my friends) think Clinton was one of the best Presidents the USA has ever had.

Hmm, pie.

Im from Europe and we loved Obama when he was new. But after all he is just an other illuminati puppet.
Too afraid to do what he promised

^ That's very interesting as that's just one giant conspiracy, who knows maybe you're right maybe obama's tied in with the free masons too?

I think he is. considering how much power the masons/illuminati have. They control the politics from the background

Which begs the question: Why, exactly, do we all love Obama so much?

I like him as a person. He does seem sincere. He has his head in the right place. He's a good speaker, he's charismatic, and (from an objective point of view) he's good looking. Since the majority of people don't really care about such dull things as policies or economic success, especially when they don't live in the country, I would say that's the reason.

I think you answered your own question quite well and I agree with that.

Need something off Play-Asia? http://www.play-asia.com/

The reasons that people usually cite for hating bush are the same things Obama promised to stop and yet continues.

Bush - Iraq/Afghanistan
Obama - Iraq/Afghanistan/Libya

Bush - high deficit/ high debt/ climbing unemployment
Obama - higher deficit/ higher debt/ promised unemployment wouldn't go above 8% and it went above 10 and is now above 9

Obama promised to end guantanamo within a year and did not, and end military tribunals but yet still continues them.

But these are mostly domestic issues, i guess Obama is nicer to the international community while Bush had an America is Number 1 mentality.

After a certain age, I never expected any future president truly capable of making many positive changes that change the way you or I live.

All I want from the guy, is to make as few people hate America as possible. He's doing a good job on that, so I'm satisfied. I liked Clinton too, but then again, I'm "naive".

Ask anyone else, and the only Pres they did not complain about was FDR!

I think you have the wrong Roosevelt.

Teddy is generally the consensus "Everyone likes" president.

A lot of people don't like FDR.

Largely economists, historians and history enthusiasts.

While most people think his leadership got us out of the great depression, for most economists at best he didn't prolong or make it worse... with a lot of economists taking the opposite route.  Not even Keynesian economists think he saved it, but instead point to WW2 and claim it's like government intervention.

Whole historian wise... when you get to all his civil rights abuses, his chronic cheating on his wife, his attempt to destroy the supreme court by making it so the president could just keep appointing judges until he got a result he liked.  His imprisoment of a completely innocent man who overheard conversations with Churchill that stated the EXACT opposite of what he was campaigning on at the time.  His literal suggestion of the actual physical castration of the German population.  Price controlled the crap out of everything and paid farmers to NOT grow food to constrain the food supply... rampant union breaking despite the fact that he was supposed to be the little guy... used the FBI and IRS to dig up dirt on political enemies, internment of the Japanese, shutting down the press that disagreed with him... and much more!

Roosevelt was actually one of the most ghastily horrible presidents... but gets a pass because getting us in the war to singlehandidly win WW2 and prevent the people of today from living in one of those horrible alternate universes run by nazis that are always in the media.

Eh?

Obama is a solid president but I feel he could be great if he didn't have to deal with the poisonous American politics system and 24 hour news cycle. He hasn't been able to truly articulate to the people what he is doing while republicans continue to use sound bites effectively against him.

That's how a lot of people treat it.

FDR was a SCARY bad president who is only well thought of because he led us durign a popular war.

Bush - Started 2 wars (one illegally). During Bushes administration banks and insurance companies started the financial crisis and plunged the world into recession.

Obama - Has tried to end 2 wars and bring soldiers home. During Obama's administration he's helped to stablise the world ecomony by saving banks, this involed bail outs. But due to dept before Obama, companies have gone out of business putting thousands in unemployment in Obama's administration.

Different perspectives.

Ah, gotcha!

obama does what he is told like all presidents, thankfully he is extremely media friendly and the first black president which gives the illusion of change,a woman should run next after obama's second term, she might win

the usa was made by the 2 world wars while europe was brought to its knees infact wars make and break all nations and leaders its just the way it is,obama hasn't pulled troops out of anywhere has he?,and we seem to be bombing more muslim countries i wish we would just pull out of the islamic world and let them kill each other as they go through the growing pains of a modernising religion, they are in denial if you ask me and blame whitey for everything when they need to take responsibility for their own leaders, anyway

the american president who is in office when china has a bigger navy and more money will be the next important president, when the usa is no longer No1 will be a big change with a strong India and Russia the east will truly be all powerful and war will be inevitable,i feel for japan out there, the only saving grace is it will knock the tedious islam and middle east off our daily news,i'll be interested to see how islam deals with China when she comes knocking followed closely by India

Hopefully the new super powers will have forgotten all about little England and leave us alone to live like hobbits living in the shires playing football and cricket eating strawberries and cream far far away from mount doom
