I don't know who said it, but these guys have hacked Fox, PBS, and Sony in the last 23 days. Plus that weapon manufactuer was just hacked. It certainly just isn't Sony being hacked...

That's the crazy thing, we have some internet terrorists going crazy attacking websites, and people are blaming the websites. These thugs need to stop and sadly I fear we are going to lose our privacy to fix this. 

But you don't see it happening to other sites psrock? What the hackers do is sad and should not be supported. However they only reason they are doing it is because Sony say they are secure when clearly they are not. If they had gone about things in a different way they would not be the target they are. I bet they regret opening the can of worms now bigtime has it has ended up costing them millions and by the looks of things it is not over. Sony need to get serious and start spending on better security. If it means charging a small monthly fee then i am sure most people would be happy to pay it. While Sony are not to blame for this whole situation you have to say they have not helped the situation. It could of been avoided.

PBS was hacked yesterday, gmail is going through some as well, this isn't a Sony thing, it's serious. No compay is getting attacked like them though. People think their companies is so much better just better hope the haCKERS don't attack. 


PBS had a news piece put up, and Gmail had a phising hack. They didn't get hold of the details. Very different from someone breaking in and stealing millions of users credit card and passwords....

We were talking about the hacks at Sony in general not just this one.

Over on gaf they have a lot more info about it then this thread. Some are saying that people who downloaded the details have been able to gain access to facebook accounts because people use the same passwords for lot's of places they visit. I think the big question here is why did they have the details stored on the server? What were they for? Some speculate that it could be connected to regestering a product or purchasing something from the Sony store. Either way while credit cards were not stolen this time name/address/dob/password was. Which to hackers is a lot of information to use to screw you over.


I dont see anywhere on the sonypictures website where i can register my name. also according to the screen shot the most used city is from a town with a population of 3,000 and the most used birthdates are 70-80 years old


According to gaf there was a website but it was taken down.  So i imagine Sony took it down for obvious reasons.

Yes, it's Sony's fault for having piss poor security.  It would be in their best interests to improve security.

On the flip side the hackers are being lame.  It's one thing to hack the website(s) and get the info.  You could then easily email/some other way communicate to Sony.  "Hey you are vulnerable to SQL injection, please sanitize your inputes.  I was able to get all of this information <see attachments>".  Instead they run around like children saying "LOOK AT ME!!" for no reason but getting attention and measuring their e-peens.

Thats a very good post, both sides have their responsibility. What im wandering is, legally speaking, in knowledge of their security problem, should Sony take all their servers that contain customer information offline until they get time to upgrade them. What do you think of that? (keeping in my mind the information is, name, address, date of birth, e-mail and the standard of the industry in term of online security). Im actually hesitant on that, I think they should but at the same time, we shouldnt ask more to a single company then to the other. So what do you think?


I doubt any other website similiar to sony pictures would have higher security. I dont know why people are questioning sonys security...  They should be questioning hackers motivs by making it so public in my opinion... some pro sony hackers should start publisizing all sorts of hack on other businesses to show it aint just sony.

If you want to have more civil discussions, then I suggest you stop being so anti-Sony in all of your posts about the company. People will never take your opinion seriously if they have the knowledge that you are against Sony ALL THE TIME. If I people saw me always talking negatively about Burger King. They wouldn't care about my opinion about their burgers. People just don't care. That's how people feel about you.
When your entire history on a specific company consists of being negative to said company, then your opinion won't have much value to most people, thus no civil discussions. I don't know/understand why all of your posts about Sony are negative, but if you want to have some civil discussions with people, then I suggest you show that you have the ability to see the positive in Sony or at least try to be neutral.

I question both, surely its the hackers that commit an illegal act, but in knowledge of this, you are also liable. When people gives their informations, you need to protect them, its not your fault if it get stolen, but you still need to do your best protecting it. Was Sony doing their best?!? Probably not! But im sure that now they want to put everything up to date. They were working on PSN 24/7, once that completed they will surely work on the other server too. Hence why my questioning, should they put offline everything that contains customer information until its upgraded or is it considered acceptable. If considered acceptable with the industry standard, maybe we should change that, dont get me wrong though, its not Sony's fault to not do more then what the law ask of them.

Way to misinterpret my post.  I didn't say it was a mistake (hence the qoutations around the word), and never said it was a HUGE one.  Sony did what they felt was right for their company.  Doesn't matter if you agree with it or not, they have every right to do so.  The courts are the ones who are to decide what is right and what is wrong.  Of course, Geohot didn't allow the court to make a final verdict, as he settled beforehand.  But whatever was decided in that court should have been accepted by the hackers, or if they didn't agree, they could have done the mature thing and requested Geohot make an appeal.  Instead, they acted like children and tried to hurt Sony in their own way.  A way that has brought a public eye on this hacking situation and turned many against the hackers, even though they claimed to be doing it for the consumers.  I wouldn't be surprised if the government starts getting stricter with the internet.  And really, they should have been doing something earlier.  The internet should not be a place for people to just do whatever the Hell they wish, especially when it hurts other individuals.

exactly right. what people need to realize is what sony did was not wrong. they were within their rights doing what they did. it does not give hackers a right to fuck with them. the hackers are the wrong ones. the court system is in place to protect all parties. the consumer rights and the business' property.  sony didn't cause any issues among geohot...
