Forums - Nintendo - Rumor: No Flash or HTML5 Support For The 3DS Web Browser

It's okay for me if 3DS browser doesn't support flash. But if they really use the old version of Netfront, I guess the browser will be slow to load one page. And, I guess HTML 5 is the standard. It's silly for them not to support it actually.

maybe there will be a youtube channel available for download.

This does seem to follow Nintendo’s previous web browsers and their need to protect their cute, family friendly reputation with kids and their parents.

I don't think that has anything to do with it. It most likely has to do with Nintendo wanting people to be able to access flash based games from the 3DS. Flash based games that might be illegal and pirated copies of Nintendo or other developer/publisher games. The browser isn't going to stop one from visiting any normal HTML conent. That wouldn't make any kind of sense at all.

That would be great and all, but my guess is most, if not all, movies would not be in 3d.

I can think of many reasons for Nintendo not to support Flash or HTML5. One of the biggest is of course parental protection so that children do not get access to certain adult content. But another huge one is software, Nintendo doesn't want their users playing Flash games on their systems. Games they make no money off and have no ability to police. Nintendo wants to retain content control and allowing Flash and HTML 5 would do alot of damage to their ability to control content.

Also if gamers were playing free games on NewGrounds or other sites that is time they aren't spending on Nintendo titles. Less time on Nintendo titles leads to less sales and less interest in future Nintendo hardware. Nintendo's not stupid they want to compete by having a browser but they don't want to compete with that browser for their gamers hours and dollars!
