Either way, you obviously need to talk this over with your friends, they were probably talking about the minor amount of hacking that occured just after the PS3 was hacked, not after the serial key thingy's were leaked.

Woah woah woah, what is this? Never heard of this. Before Geohot released the key?

"o_O.Q has been defending Sony for ages now"

? how did you arrive at tht conclusion? what have i said that you consider defending?

I'm not quite sure how the timeline went. Wasn't there a jailbreak first? And then the root keys were released?

Either way, Call of Duty online went from slightly fu**** to MEGA fu****.

the root keys were released in the time period of late last year to early this year and yes afterwards the issues with CoD ( which never happened on that scale ever before ) happened

lmfao telling the truth about how hackers messed up psn is defending? if anyone at all says anything at all negative about hackers you jump on them isn't that defending?

Nah, I jump on misinformation that I see. Mugen blaming all hackers for everything, and you saying a game that I heard was pretty playable being unplayable.

I'll defend Geohotz though.

Here, I'll give you the rundown on my feelings on the hackers that sprung up because of the Sony thing

Geohotz: I think Sony should lay off of him. He didn't do anything illegal, and should be treated that way
Fail_0verfl0w(spelling?): Cool guys, pretty much left alone by Sony, which was good
Graf_Chokolo(?): His house was raided just for talking about hacking... He should have been left alone
Opsony: Not hackers, but I'll throw them on the list. Annoying kids that resorted to pranks and DDoS attacks. Just got in the way. Don't really care about them one way or the other
Phantom: Hackers that should get thrown in jail. Stealing thousands of people's personal info.
Lulzsec: I'm hoping they are just blowing smoke, but they deserve prison time for what they did to PBS and Fox

Sig thanks to Saber! :D

Yes, there have been USB dongles since before Hotz released the masterkey.

They did something to Fox?

If they weren't threatening to hack PSN again I would actually like these guys.

So, wait was there cheating on CoD before the masterkey incident or not?

Admit it. Most of you who are happy that Sony are being hacked and encourage this behaviour, defending the hackers are just fanboys of your respective consoles (Xbox/Wii)

I just look at the profile of these Sony bashers and they are the Wii/Xbox people. What if your precious console gets hacked instead? You'll still encourage these hackers?

I am neither an xbox or a wii person. I am however anti root-kit person, and really anti anything that fucks with my consumer rights. Sony just has happened to excel at that.

Are there root kits on the PS3?

I've been following your posts since you joined this site(mostly because we post in the same threads). You defend Sony quite often.

for the most part i have said that this whole issue of property boils down to this : yes you can take your console and modify it as you like but when you reach the point where your modding affects other people and their property then you've crossed a line

like for example if i had a car i could strap a sword to it but it must remain within my personal space so that others aren't affect... however if i disregard others and drive that car out in public then im posing a threat to them and their property which is unacceptable

i believe the same should apply to console modding if you mod a console your mods shouldn't affect others but thats exactly what happened with geohot who posted those keys ( but according to him whose words we should trust because apparently hes a saint he did not partake in any malicious actvities ) and suddenly hacking shyrockets to a point where its difficult to play some games and there are more reports of piracy
