Here are a few facts that people completly over look. 1) The PS2 was the 1st, 6th Generation Console to be released. It had a Year and 1 Month sales lead on either Xbox or the GameCube. The PS2 had absolutly no competition againt it. Thats one reason why it's numbers are so high. 2) The Wii on the other hand was released at the same time as the PS3, 1 Year after the 360. We are talking about a Console that was way behind in technology, and had 2 current Generation Consoles to contend with. And was still able to outsell them. Theres no wonder the Wii cant catch up to the PS2 sales, the PS2 had a massive advantage. But even seeing the Wii knock at the PS2's door is absolutly amazing, thats what makes it.....in my opinion.....the greatest console ever made. |
Agreed, at least on the part where people don't give Wii enough respect. Wii came in with a million advantages and wiped the floor with its competition. On top of that, it was criticized to no end by the gaming press and, far more importantly, third parties, and still made a mockery out of its competition for over three years. Sure, it's fallen like a rock recently, but people still seem to try to make it sound like a failure, which would be amusing had it not been such a popular belief.
I don't, however, think that a console's greatness can be necessarily judged by raw sales, even if they are the most objective way of doing so.
