I love how people just don't give the Wii the respect it deserves. Here are a few facts that people completly over look.

1) The PS2 was the 1st, 6th Generation Console to be released. It had a Year and 1 Month sales lead on either Xbox or the GameCube. The PS2 had absolutly no competition againt it. Thats one reason why it's numbers are so high.

2) The Wii on the other hand was released at the same time as the PS3, 1 Year after the 360. We are talking about a Console that was way behind in technology, and had 2 current Generation Consoles to contend with. And was still able to outsell them. Theres no wonder the Wii cant catch up to the PS2 sales, the PS2 had a massive advantage. But even seeing the Wii knock at the PS2's door is absolutly amazing, thats what makes it.....in my opinion.....the greatest console ever made.

Sales does not make it the greatest console ever made.

The Wii is only so popular because it's target audience ISN'T the typical hardcore gamer.

While I do think it is underrated by hardcore gamers because they say "it's just a kids console", it still doesn't deserve the sales just because it's the latest trendy Christmas present.

Partly false, its market doesn't have have typical hardcore gamers, because 3rd parties chose to not bring those games over.

Had the first years of the Wii been given the same 3rd party games with only losses to HD visuals, Wii would gained the core gamer as well.

However, 3rd parties were short sighted in the beginning and then decided to not spend the money to make their engines Wii friendly as they were comfortable with PS360/PC userbase and created their own self-fulling logic of who the Wii market was and was not.

Nintendo encourage this though, although they might have came out with a great Zelda or Mario game, they blanked their hardcore fans and tried to sell their console to grandparents.

With Nintendo putting such underpowered hardware into the Wii, this encouraged it even further. Who cares about graphics? ...Hardcore gamers. Who doesn't care about graphcis? ...Casual gamers.

It isn't just down to the 3rd party developers, Nintendo's goal from the start was to sell the Wii to the casual gamer.
