Forums - Sony - Sony's reward program is too generous

the OP as a whole IS this question. There is none other. His following posts are of the exact same stripe. "I didn't want THESE games, but it will prevent me from buying Modnation racers now, just looking to see if anyone had similar experiences"

But thank you. I agree that the games are old. I don't think they're giving enough, myself. There should've been at least one newish game in there, or at least some kind of rebate on buying a new game, etc. I also think their other offers fall short. DCU one month, and PSN plus are hardly compensatory. THese are more likely free advertising for the new games and PSN plus.

You're welcome! :) - - - It may be more boring to some, but it's nice to have a friendly and civilized discussion with others here

@bolded: Interesting :p

well, granted nothing bad has really happened, there was potentially catastrophic outcomes.

When I was thinking about it, after hearing that EU was getting free games of an undisclosed nature, I thought it would be fair had it been like 3 months of PSN Plus, one new-ish game (I was hoping Killzone 3 :P), rebates for a free controller, or a ps eye. Giving 50$ off a PS Move bundle would've been good.

I just really dislike virtual items. They're not terrible, and they're better than nothing, but tangible goods > everything else.

I already just bought Infamous so basically I lost $20 on this.

The other games don't interest me, but Stardust HD would if it was available. Is Stardust not available to Euro customers?

I was thinking the exact same thing. A little too generous considering none of us actually lost anything, if you can prove you did I'd like to see the proof.

Not nothing, personal information, CC info...etc

As for the proof, Sony themselves said it was compromised

Show me some proof that your personal information was stolen and then used against you. How did it damage your life? Has your identity been stolen? 90% of the information stolen can be found online, facebook, yellowpages, ect ect. How is it that you are entitled to more (or anything for that matter) when you have not been affected at all by this at all. Like I said, was your credit care fraduently used? If so, Sony has said they will compensate and give you many other credit benefits for the next 10 years. Are you one of those people? Don't foret, this was STOLEN information by an outside 3rd party, Sony did not give out your information willingly. Yet since your information that you willingly gave to Sony, was stolen by a 3rd party, they are offering all this free stuff. And you complain? It's not good enough for you? I could find out a whole lot more about you online in about 20 minutes of work than these people got on you.

Again, show me proof your info was stolen and used against you. And maybe then I will actually jump on your ship and feel you are being undercompensated for your losses. Other wise, you lost nothing. Yet feel entitled to more? Sad.

For me, it makes the downtime worth it :P

e=mc^2

I never said that the info was used, just that it was stolen. You say 90% of your info can be found elsewhere, which may be true for some, but that doesn't excuse the fact that your personal info was stolen from them, people get sued over this kind of stuff. And the otehr 10% is your CC info? I'd like to see you post something like that online

I never said anyone was entitled either (where are you getting this??), I think if Sony wants to keep their customer's trust, they were gonna have to do something

Anyways, all I said was that they're doing this because they lost people's personal info (not nothing) - - - - I don't understand why you replied with all :|

I'll start off by saying that I already own LBP and inFamous so possibly I should be possibly be amongst those doing the  the complaining.

However ... I hold US, EU (and Japan) PSN accounts, so the shortage could end up netting me four (or more) games - Dead Nation, Wipeout, Stardust and Ratchet. For me this means months of free gaming as I generally only have a limited number of hours per week for gaming. And it also means that I will be putting off buying new retail games.

Do you think the rewards are over-generous and will it lead you to buy less games in the next months?

Looking over the list of games again, they either look like some PSN stuff (pretty good stuff) or games with a sequel already out or coming out later this year.  So having people get the games prior to the sequel gets them interested in the sequel.  I wouldn't sweat about it being too generous.  Corporations like Sony know what they are doing.

@ Theprof00

I still stand by my original statement.

This was the OP:

"I'll start off by saying that I already own LBP and inFamous so possibly I should be possibly be amongst those doing the  the complaining.

Now, something I have noticed among certian gamers is that they pick the side of the game developers, regardless of how much the developers want to screw them over. Like people defending DD only, or some of the ridiculous DRM and schemes to fight used games. Those kind of discussions are filled with such masochistic gamers, and I think that mindset is very unhealthy for gaming.

With that said, the bolded part was phrased in such a was as to ask the question on a personal level, instead of say, the traditional VGchartz macro way of just asking "how do you think this will affect the numbers" the OP almost sounded like "Do you think Sony has been too generous to you, do you think this will make you buy fewer games" Which gave me the impression that he might feel bad for buying fewer games, since the question was about anecdotes.

This was the impression I got, it might have been wrong, but the OP was written in such a way.

So I answered "You are a customer. You shouldn't be worrying about it" Not to flame him, like you so blatantly accused me of, but in a "Hey, don't worry about it" kind of way.

And I still think it's a silly thing to worry about, we probably won't see any difference at all at a macro scale, we might even see an increase in sales due to gamers that play lots of games tent to always want more, and it might advertise PSN to players that haven't used it.

So why should we be worried on a personal level for buying fewer games?

Are you happy with blowing this out of proportion now?

I LOVE ICELAND!

oh, and @Rol and the guy with Mario themed Wii avatar, thanks for covering my back against those accusations. I totally missed that this was going on.

I LOVE ICELAND!

tell that to the people still bitching and complaining....-_-

inFamous and LBP are big games with a lot of content.  I can see this as a double edged sword:  Maybe the old games will be enough to "scratch the itch" and people won't feel compelled to buy the sequels.  Maybe the originals will make gamers hungry for more.  Maybe HDD space is an issue so people (like me) are goning to opt for the smaller games.

In my particular case, I alresdy own the big games.  I'll have to settle for Wipeout and Dead Nation for PS3 and I'll have to settle for Mod Nation and Pursuit force on PSP.  We'll just have to see what gamers end up doing.  Personally, I just want the PS Store up and running so I can get my copy of Back to the Future that I already paid for in advance!
