Forums - Nintendo - 3DS may be the first instance where I actually pick Sony over Nintendo

I hate when Ninty fans try to demonize others by saying they're lying about their purchases when there is clear proof they aren't.

While I get your point (it wasn't very nice nor clever from Jumpin to claim that Runa pretended he bought a 3DS), I think your link to Runa216's Pilotwings Resort review doesn't help in this case. I think we can agree that game reviewers should try to be as objective as possible, which Runa612 clearly showed in this thread he isn't. Already two months after the 3DS launch he regrets having bought the system for which he reviewed a game on VGC...

I disagree, just because someone doesn't think a system is very good doesn't mean he can't be objective while reviewing games on it.  I obviously love my PS3 more than my Wii but I have no issue reviewing games on the Wii that I find interesting.  I do not require that my reviewers love the system they review for, just that they are objective for the game they are playing.

LOL are you trying to tell me that Nintendo is not after the casual gamer? The very purpose the nintendo wii was made along with DS? Ill say it again im no apple fan but the 3DS needs to be priced at least $30 lower than the cheapest ipod.

The hardcore gamer (including the Nintendo hardcore) are out of touch with the mass market "casual" gamer so it doesn't surprise me that they don't "get" that. "It haz no buttonz" sounds awfully a lot like "the wiimote sucks, use a real gamepad" and the "smartphone games aren't real games" sounds awfully a lot like "get a Xbox/Playstation to play real games" talking point. The Nintendo hardcore are starting to really sound like the Xbox/Playstation hardcore these days. They feel threatened by smart device gaming much in the way that the Xbox/Playstation hardcores felt threatened by the Wii and PSP fans felt threatened by the DS.

really people?  my only point is that it had a dismal launch, which it did.  you're all making wild accusations based on assumptions. I have said multiple times that I know all about what games come out and when they are coming out, etc.  I take a lot of time learning about release schedules and metacritic scores and various other factors in my game making decisions. I knew damn well before the system came out that there was nothing of value on it, stop making accusations.  that's not objective, so stop accusing me of being biased.

I need to clarify that I have full faith in the system in the future, which is why I bought it with my tax return, but since there's NOTHING worth having now, I feel like I wasted my money, and I should have waited.

you people are so goddamn aggressive.  sheesh.  I'm the positive one here.

And that pretty much discredits your PilotWings Resort review entirely as well. Why did you buy this system then?

Here's the scenario:

1. Nintendo announces the 3DS launch lineup months before launch.

2. You determine all its launch/launch window games are garbage or remakes/ports.

3. You buy a 3DS anyway.

4. You review PilotWings Resort, which you already predetermined to be "garbage."

5. You post in here complaining about the launch lineup asking where Pokemon, Mario, and Mario Kart are.

Gee, I wonder why people might be a bit inquisitive whether or not you were aware of the software coming out this year on the 3DS after all.  BTW, I must've missed the part in your PilotWings review about "I wouldn't pay $10 for this game" or "I don't think I would play this game for free!" hyperbole that you were shooting off earlier in this thread.

I just think it's ironic that you say "I knew damn well before the system came out there was nothing of value on it," yet you review PilotWings and have the gall to say "stop accusing me of being biased." Perhaps you need to look up the term in a dictionary, because it's pretty evident you are when you played the game with the preconceived notion it would be garbage before you even started playing it.

themanwithnoname's law: As an America's sales or NPD thread grows longer, the probabilty of the comment "America = World" [sarcasticly] being made approaches 1.

also to clarify, I think the 3DS is a great system with a lot of potential, I'm also sure it will have a lot of phenomenal games...but right now it has crap.  the whole point I was trying to make was that of allt he systems I've ever bought on or around launch, this is the only one I've picked up, played for review purposes....then put down and wanted nothing to do with.  Every other system has kept my interest for weeks on end, captivating my attention with their gimmicks or power, this one sits in a pocket in my laptop case beside my PSP and gets no use.  To remedy this ailment, I went to Gamestop to get some new games but found nothing even remotely interesting to me.  I've never ever had that problem with a console.  even the DS had enough gimmicky stuff on it to keep my attention until Mariokart DS came out.  this one just has me scratching my head.  I'm more interested in playing a DS game on it than any 3DS game.

The point being, I was never trying to push the "3DS sucks" agenda, not until people got hostile with me.  you might want to get that checked, guys.  Seriously, net-rage is an issue that needs to be resolved amongst male internet users between the ages of 8 and 122.

Also, okr, what I gathered from your most recent post is "Reviewers are not allowed to have opinions, they have to be completely biased and neutral in all aspects."  I don't know a single reviewer who doesn't have bias, but every single one of them is able to set that bias aside and write a fair and honest review.

No, Runa, I'm afraid you gathered what you wanted to gather. Please don't insult your own and my intelligence by claiming that I meant that reviewers are not allowed to have an opinion. Even though I don't know you I think I can safely say we're both smarter than that. I literally said reviewers should try to be as objective as possible.

Of course every single person on this planet is allowed to have an opinion on anything, but as a reviewer on a gaming site I think you just shouldn't post things like the bolded sentence above (yes, you did it again):
You don't just say the system has no games that interest you (which would be absolutely fine), you can't help but start your post with "the 3DS is a system with potential but right now it has crap". This is not a sentence I expect from a reviewer - or a good forum member for that matter.

Let's see how I would have worded my current opinion on 3DS for example:
Even tough I'm probably among the biggest DS fans on VGC (I have bought more than 100 DS games), at the moment I'm not interested at all in getting a 3DS for different reasons:
- early lineup, which just isn't for me, no matter how hard I tried to convince myself initially
- my backlog on all my other systems (PC/DS/PSP/Wii/PS3/360)
- not convinced I'll ever enjoy the 3D feature, not convinced a system can or will benefit from 3D
- generally a bit tired of console/handheld gaming at the moment
- tablet gaming caught my interest more than 3DS or NPG, as my beloved point&click adventures seem to go there
I'm even not interested yet in purchasing a 3DS despite Ocarina of Time 3D - one of the best games in one of my most favourite franchises - on the horizon.

So, you see, I have no real reasons to defend a system I'm currently not intested in, but fact is that right now, two months after launchthe 3DS already has:
- one great and one very good fighting game according to reviews and fans of the respective franchises
- Pilotwings, which I heard is at least decent, some franchise fans even seem to really like it
- a good successor to Nintendogs with some new features
- this Ridge Racer game which seems to be good as well
- Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon which got (imo) surprising good reviews
None of these games interest me in the slightest, but not a single one of these games qualifies as "crap", not even subjectively.

A dismal launch compared to what is where your point falls through. The last console with a good launch was the Dreamcast, and that was solely for Sonic Adventure.

Okay, Game Boy Advance was pretty good too...

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

Sony's quality in consoles has always been better than Nintendo's. If it wasn't for Mario, nintendo would have had to go and play a Sega and get Multiplat.

No. Nintendo's strategy is built around sustainable profitability at any sales level (and remember that with the GC and GBA they out-profited Sony CE in the PS2 era), and they certainly didn't get through the GC/GBA era on Mario's back, as his entries were less prominent in that time. The Sega route was never a real possibility.

as long as the 3DS has a Zelda game, a metroid game, a kirby game, a pokemon game, and a mario game, it will be worth having.  Since I know it is going to have all of that, it's worth having.  Plus it's got Paper Mario and Kingdom Hearts, so that's double win.

I have played the 3DS for 2-5 hours straight with no  headaches or anything like that. With anything you have to ease yourself into it. First when I got, I had the slider up about 1/2. The more and more I played it, the higher the slider would go. Most games now, it's on full blast or just a smidge before.

Except for Rayman 3D, I just turned the whole console off :)

Everyone is different. According to everyone. That is why there is the slider to adjust. So, adjust accordingly.
