Another on rails shooter, how exciting.

what the? >_> I think you have no clue what on rails mean. I think the word you're looking for is linear. and frankly I don't care, what's important is they have created one hell of a atmosphere with this one! looks way better than R2

That segment with the boat auto-moving is essentially on-rails.

And most modern shooters are practically on-rails because they're not only completely linear in level design, they're also so directed, scripted, cinematic and cut-scened to the maximum, to the extent that the game plays pretty much by itself. You just hold a controller and push some buttons as an excuse for it to be called playing a game.

Playing Call of Duty, Uncharted or Gears of War is more like watching a movie than playing a game.

dude again what you are describing IS linear gameplay, not on rails. go and check star wars kinect or deadspace extraction if you want an example of what on-rails is.

It's true many games are following the cinematic route, and I for one love it, as long as it's done right. a game DOES follow a script, this is not an RPG or something or HR type of game with multiple endings. it's a FPS.

anywho sounds like this is not the type of game you would like, avoid all R3, UC3, COD MW3, Gears 3 threads. if you want to discuss what on rails is vs linear, go ahead and make a thread on it

Come now. On-rails almost always means you are limited to almost zero control on character movement. Mostly aiming and shooting only. Eg. Time Crisis. Dead Space Extraction.

Linear mean the path is fixed, but you are in complete control of your character's movements.

But to be fair to Slimebeast, "on-rails" has become a term used to mock games for their excessive linear nature. eg Call Of Duty and Killzone

off topic: guh, been grinding this 10k kills out on the 2nd one for a while now. 6.5k down. the way i see it is if i kill 100 people a day ill be done in about a month.
