Forums - Nintendo - Rumour: Cafe controller will have builtin camera

source

Insider offers more detail on the widely speculated controller

The controller for Nintendo’s new home console includes a front-facing camera system, a person close to the matter has told Develop.

The source also confirmed some, though not all, of the controller details that are already in circulation.

The new Nintendo console – widely dubbed the ‘Wii 2’ – will officially be unveiled at E3 in June, Nintendo said.

Its controller has for weeks been at the centre of intense speculation, and Develop understands Nintendo is not showing the tech to all development partners in a bid to curb leaks.

An insider said the Wii 2 pad features a front-facing camera that can be used for in-game images. The person also corroborated a number of well-referenced rumours, such as the controller features a six-inch touch-screen, “possibly with a stylus”, as well as a standard button layout.

Develop could not obtain details of the Wii 2’s hardware specifications.

News site IGN recently claimed Nintendo would team with AMD to manufacture a graphics processor featuring a custom version of the R700 architecture.

The CPU is alleged to be a custom-built, triple-core IBM PowerPC chip.

The system will be capable of supporting 1080p HD display as well as stereoscopic 3D, according to IGN’s sources.

Develop’s source elsewhere speculated – but was not claiming to know – that Nintendo’s 3DS handheld could act as a replacement controller.

“The functions are the same,” the source said. “It is a standard wireless controller added with a front-facing camera and touch screen. That sounds far too much like a 3DS to me. But I can’t confirm this, Nintendo is being very cautious about the details.”

I heard it also has a printer, coffee maker and can holder built in...

I read before that the new controller will have a camera. That`s why, in another thread, i raised the possibility of taking pictures or even filming with the remote.

I`m really starting to believe that the new controller will be an hybrid between a normal controller (with buttons) and a ipad/NDS like controller, so people could opt to play one way or the other.

If you can use the 3DS, they might let people use the DSi or even the DS. The uses could be more limited for the latter.

Why don't they just make it so that you can mount the DSi/XL/3DS to the controller?

you mean to remove the screen from the controller and use the DSes to do the screening and touching?

That’s a bad idea because then you would have to buy 4 DSes and the wire like with the GBA and that’s crap…

I want more advanced motion controllers not just this thing!!

    R.I.P Mr Iwata :'(

The rumors seem to get weirder and weirder...

Add a Microphone, double triggers, L3 and R3 buttons, add speakers, and keep a touch screen on the controller. Or you could do the smart thing, and advance your motion controls....

lol add a few more thing and you might not even need a console..or a handheld. the controller will be enough

The Wii 2 sounds expensive... I wouldn't be surprise if it's in 400 dollars price range.
