There's a difference between units sold to retailers and units sold to consumers. VG Chartz tracks the latter (as best it can), so the numbers tend to be lower than what Sony et. al. state they've sold. While the PS2 probably does have 130mil units in distribution, not all of them have been bought by consumers.

PS2 is not at 130 million in anything. Where do yall get such bull. The last numbers we heard about PS2 from Sony was around 117 million, which we know was production shipments. Meaning how many was produced. That means there is not only a lag between actual sales and shipments, but not between shipments and production shipments. Have to know the difference.

this site is probably pretty close to the actuall number of PS2's sold, which is about 115 million right now. That means about 117-118 million shipped and about 120-122 million produced.

Sony says a lot of things leo.... remember 5.5 million sold by last March, or remember 6 million sold by April/May (whenever the Australian CEO guy said it)

I do actually believe VGC may be under by a few million for PS2 (4 million max) because I don't think ioi tracks some areas the PS2 has been released in,... I think it is safe to say however that any number Sony spouts for total PS2 sales will in fact be shipment details (if not just production... which is what the 117 million was)

We know that they had "shipped" 117 million PS2s (meaning produced) by last March, and they had a production projection of 12 million for the year (remember the 11 million for PS3 one)... so we can guess that they probably produced close to 129 million by now.

My bet is PS2 has not sold 117 million yet, there is a hell of a lot of supply.

This is actually where Sonys channel stuffing comes into good play, because after everyone has lost interest in the PS2 there will still be millions unsold, which will of course get cut in price until they are sold.
I for one wish the PS2 would just die now because I refuse to pay £100 for it, but i kind of want one... I will wait till it comes down to about £50 i think.
