Then,Angry birds is'nt the next Mario then. lol

It's not. It's better. It doesn't need to be pushed into 14 different games to hit 100 Million.

just lol...

i mean sry but what the hell are you talking about? i love angry birds and i play it everytime i'm on the toilet ;) but you compare a game which runs on like a billion phones and is available for free like i got it or maybe for 99c, with a game series running only on devices of one company (mario could sell more as well if it would be on ps2 aso.) and prices which are much higher?

it's like you would take the amazon download charts and say that the interprets of the free songs are the new lady gagas and michael jacksons because more people download these songs lool noone cares about those singers.

again that's not really a fair comparison. I'll bet if you put some mario game on the I-phone for a buck and a free version,it would probably sell 200 million

Let's have a bet then.

I bet that within a Year there wont be a Mario game on the iPhone that sells 200 Million units.

If I'm right, then you have to fully admit that Angry Birds is better than Mario for a full Year in your sig.

Let's start from now. Mario has a Year. GO!

140 million downloads and not a single one of those is accounted for by me. I can still call myself a gamer, not so sure about some of you guys.

Well, except for Carl. That dude is a joke for sure.

Although in his defense, he had no credibility in the first place. Can't lose what you never had.

You need to broaden your horizons and stop hating on games that appeal to the mass market.

The new Mario.

I don't think I would go that far.

I know, we don't have the Angry Birds Official Milking Simulator yet...

Although on the plus side, Angry Birds has outsold NSMB, NSMB Wii, SMG, SMG2 and SM64DS combined!

The article says it has 140 million downloads not that it sold 140 million downloads. Your trippin and riding this simple game a bit to hard.

I downloaded a couple Angry Birds games onto my Android phone but I haven't played them yet. Game Dev Story was occupying my time and now Zenonia 2.

This game is just a silly trend of new-born iphone users, and they get sick of playing it very quickly, I´m doubtful that this "franchise" will be able to survive more than 5 years.

Yet I bet it still hasn't reached 100 million in revenue

If it hasn't yet, it will soon.

Here's an article from back in March:

http://www.businessinsider.com/rovio-angry-birds-accel-2011-3

"Rovio revenue is thought to be $50-70 million from app sales and licensing and the company is profitable."

That was two months and 40 million downloads ago.

Angry Birds is getting an animated TV show. It really is the Super Mario Bros. of smartphone gaming.

and to add to that another 1 million a month in add revenue. Wonder how much it has brought in

http://www.intomobile.com/2010/12/03/angry-birds-android-1-million-ad-revenue/

If we assume that Rovio's 70 million in revenue from when the game hit 100 million downloaded all came from Angry Birds, then at the same rate 140 million downloaded would mean about 100 million in revenue. Or, at $1 apiece, 100 million customers.

Compare that to the best selling Mario game this gen, Mario Kart Wii. That's just sold 27 million according to Nintendo's latest quarterly report. Since the game is built for multiplayer, it probably has at least 50 or 60 million users.

So comparing Angry Birds to one Mario game...
And, since Angry Birds is selling so much and Wii is dead, I'm going to assume that Angry Birds sales will double and MK Wii won't sell any more.

Then Angry Birds would have 8 times as many customers, 200 million to 25 million.
Angry Birds would have 5 times as many users, 300 million to 60 million.

However, the average cost per customer for Mario Kart is 50 times as much as Angry Birds, $50 to $1. (Ignoring the cost of a Wii.)

And Mario Kart Wii is one of 4 Mario games to sell in the 20 million range from the last few years...

Hmmmmm....

"[Our former customers] are unable to find software which they WANT to play."
"The way to solve this problem lies in how to communicate what kind of games [they CAN play]."

Satoru Iwata, Nintendo President. Only slightly paraphrased.

I think you are also ignoring the fact that the free versions have ads and bring in plenty of revenue that way.

Who cares how many were purchased. All that matters is how large of a user base they have.

iPhone = Great gaming device. Don't agree? Who cares, because you're wrong.

Currently playing:

Final Fantasy VI (iOS), Final Fantasy: Record Keeper (iOS) & Dragon Quest V (iOS)

Haven't you heard? According to Nintendo these aren't real true gaming experiences.

Pilotwings is. Although I emplore you to please ignore the fact that many games like Pilotwings exist on Smartphones as well.

Those however are not made by Nintendo and only cost a fraction of the price.
