Forums - Sales - Does anyone still believe Wii can outsell PS2?

Not to spoil the party here, but right now Wii is selling a tad over 360 and under PS3, so it's not "dead" yet, and there was an article detailling Nintendo console HW/SW sales, and I remember that Wii HW had dropped, but at a slowing rate. So I can't say that it will pass the PS2, but it's not decided already.

Er, of course it is. They expect 13 mill for the coming FY, that'll bring it to 100 mill roughly. PS2 has surpassed 150 million and sells over 1.5 mill a Q.

Wii won't be getting anymore 10 million selling years after this one.

It WILL outsell the PS1, and it WON'T outsell the PS2, if anyone says any different they havn't got a clue. Simple!

lol, would people expect Wii to sell another 80 million even without a successor before 2015? The Wii reached 80 million really fast after 3 years of godly sales, how is the Wii going to get another 70-80 million if the sales don't match what they previously were. I mean there's a big difference in the Wii's sales right now compared to when it frist released. The Wii isn't going to double it's sales anytime at all and that's what it takes to beat the PS2.

nope, no current gen HOME console will outsell the ps2

I think at least part of the reason people thought Wii would pass PS2 was because they expected PS2 to drop off much more quickly than it has. Back in 2007 and 2008 lots of people probably thought PS2 would have been discontinued by 2010. Honestly, did anyone think PS2 would have have had a shot at 160 million a few years ago?

this.

If someone says right now that he believes that Wii will be discontinued before PS2, I would consider it a valid opinion.

Well, I'd have to do some research, but Wii is tracking ahead of PS2 in a comparable time I believe, so even if it didn't have anymore 10 milion sales years, it's not completely impossible. As you mention, PS2 is only doing 6 million a year apparently, yet that isn't a problem is it?

Though I get where you're coming from: PS2 has a 5 or 6, don't remember now sales advantage, which is hard to overcome,  and also a price advantage in countries with smaller economies, like the Middle East or Brazil, where Nintendo isn't as popular.

This vid pretty much sums up the Wii's chances of passing the PS2.

Nope, the hardware is much too reliable.

I see what you did there.

Seriously though, I doubt it. Although Nintendo have talked about plans to continue supporting the Wii/DS.
