I really want to understand this
How can Apple and other companies make so much ACTUAL money but Sony struggles? Sony made 88.205 billio in revenue in 2010 but their net income (the actual money they made, or lost if I'm correct) is −$437 million? what is operating income?
Why can't they make money considering how huge Sony is and that their involved not only in electronics but also the movies and music industry?

Its because:
Sony makes a TV, it's just one of many other TV brands.
Sony makes a console but there are two other bigger brands of consoles and it isn't even the biggest platform to play games on, the PC or online market is.
Sony makes a movie but its a crap shoot as to whether or not they make money over their entire porfolio of movies.
Apple makes an MP3 player, dominates the sale of players with >2/3rds market share.
Apple makes a Smart phone, takes >2/3rds of the market share for high end smart phones.
Apple takes a movie that Sony makes and always makes 30% whether Sony made money on it or not and sells it on iTunes.

Non bolded: Apple tends to dominate whatever niches they are targetting.
Bolded: Apple has a much more reliable way to make money in the long run.
