Well, GameBoy > GameBoy Advance. DS > 3DS and NES > SNES kinda signals that they do it from time to time...
Wii is now a huge name on the market in both hardware and software. Nintendo would be kinda silly to drop the name straight away, especially when SuperWii sounds so good.

Well, Gameboy was huge to as a brand, then they decided to go DS. It doesn't seem to matter with Nintendo. Heck, maybe Nintendo does decide to end up, for the first time ever, to go with Playstation style numbering. I think part of the reason why they don't do this, is they like to have it in people's minds that the name of the system will change, with the name of the company, Nintendo, being the constant. It isn't just the Wii, it is the Nintendo Wii. Same thing with other systems they release now. This even goes back to the NES days. Everyone called their system a Nintendo, if not NES. It was Nintendo, Super Nintendo, etc...
