Forums - Nintendo - Yet another Wii 2 Rumor. Codename 'Project Café'

Controller sounds kind of stupid.... unless the controller is the 3ds

Most anticipated games of 2011:

Uncharted 3,Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword, Rocksmith

Modern Warfare 3, Super Mario 3D

So it begins...

Most of the details seem absolutely plausible to me, for example the Blu-Ray drive, HD graphics etc.

What's really surprising me though are the controller specs:
"The controller has a six-inch touch screen, a front-facing camera, D-Pad, two bumpers, two triggers and "possibly more," and can allegedly be used as a Wii sensor bar."

1. A _six-inch_ touch screen?!? That's huge! I have a seven inch tablet PC, and I can only imagine that the controller will look just like a tablet PC on first sight. The controller would have to be really expensive, which makes me believe that it might be more than just a dumb input device, that maybe it can be used standalone as well, at least to some degree.

2. Such a huge controller would also mean that it must be held two-handed. But in that case, how is Wii backwards compatibility gonna work, where many games were relying on a split controller? How could one possibly play popular Wii games like tennis or bowling with such a controller? The only explanation I can think of is that Wii games (or at least some Wii games) will require a different controller. So there will either be an optional split controller for Wii backwards compatibility (similar to the "classic controller" for Wii), or - more likely - people will simply be able to use their old Wii Remotes in these games.

3. What about that strange "can allegedly be used as a Wii sensor bar"? In case I'm not just completely misinterpreting that sentence, I think this can only mean the console will ship with an EyeToy/Kinect-like camera/microphone (just like I always predicted!), practically copying the PS Move concept. So there will be a "sensor bar" again, but unlike the Wii sensor bar, this time it will actually be a sensor bar: Two infrared diodes at the left and right end, and a camera/microphone in the middle. At very low additional cost, this will mean that most games that are possible with EyeToy, PS Move and Kinect will also be possible on the Wii successor. And since PS Move and Kinect are only optional addons and the Wii successor will be the first next-gen console to market, the Wii successor will probably be the most successful platform for such games.

Hah! 512 mb RAM? So Nintendo is going to launch a console more powerful than PS3/360 only to bottleneck it with low RAM  like Sony and MS did? Lies! Lies I tell you! All of it!

Edit: Project Cafe huh?...maybe this thing can make coffee! D=

Wth haha another rumor!!!! If it's true it sounds interesting, but it makes you wonder wth they're thinking of :P

still skeptical; the motion controls made sense even when the Wii launched. This on the other hand sounds almost like an April Fool's joke that came two weeks too late. A six inch screen on a controller would make the thing WAY too big to be comfortable. Plus the 3DS has barely launched in America and Europe and I don't see Nintendo giving it anything less than a year to itself (hell, they gave the DS TWO YEARS). It sounds to me like a lot of people still can't process that the console generations are getting longer and have yet to learn any patience

Controller is too much...

Unless of course, the 3DS is the controller? As well as the Wiimote and CCPro or something...Hmm...could that be the 'surprise'? Or is the 'surprise' that it will launch this year? I dunno. This tangled web of information leaves much to be desired. I may do a recap thread for those who were away this week...

Also, specs seem a bit low for me. I expect a bit more gas in the tank actually when it's revealed

Here lies the dearly departed Nintendomination Thread.

Oops wrong topic.!

It's just that simple.

I hope this is true but if it's not then oh well. I am still happy either way.

I am loving all this and looking forward to what comes out of Nintendo E3. The worst thing would be if there is nothing about the new console at E3 unless there is lots and lots of Wii games.
