Forums - Sales - development cost of polish games

Very interesting. Polish developers are among the very best. They make original and very interesting stuff and reject linear gameplay.

I love Reality Pump and Two Worlds II. And soon we'll get Dead Island and The Witcher 2. All three games leaning more towards sandbox/open world than linear!

That was soooo bad -___-

i know, and i feel realy bad about it too!

now let me atone by contributing to the thread in a meaningful manner

i think the development of games should get cheaper as a generation lasts, as all the neccessary tools and engines required are already in place.

then there is the question of manpower required. i don't know how the situation is in poland, but it's not only a question of lower wages alone, but also about overtime compensation and bonuses.

if i look at japan, where it is not seldom that people work more then 100 hours a week, but hardly getting compensated for overtime, it is a completely different situation, then if the publisher actually having to pay for all of these hours.

“It appeared that there had even been demonstrations to thank Big Brother for raising the chocolate ration to twenty grams a week. And only yesterday, he reflected, it had been announced that the ration was to be reduced to twenty grams a week. Was it possible that they could swallow that, after only twenty-four hours? Yes, they swallowed it.”

"Bullestorm - over 20 millions of USD, likely to cost 80M pln (20M euro)"

Isn't 20m USD about 16m euro or probably even less? Imo 60-65M PLN is a better estimation for it.

If I am honest? I am yet to play a decent eastern european game, I haven't played the PC games - probably where most of those great games are. But on consoles there is nothing spectacular yet, Ghost Warrior was a glitchy mess, it's unbelieveable how much money they've made, I think GW launched at budget price, but even then it's probably made them a fortune as it'd most likely break even after 50-100k . Amazing profit.

Tetris ?

I was meant to say this generation :p, my bad there.

For me? Metro 2033 and Ghost recon were awful buggy messes.

Prices like those are why I am going to Vietnam if I ever have the money to make a video game.

Cost to develop is really a function of local wages times man-hours for the title. Poland's wage scale is much cheaper than in the west.

Japanese studios use engines a bit better than westerners do, which allows for cheaper game development at times. However, I wouldn't cite Nier as being a great success, as Cavia still closed down after it came out.

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.

My joke !!! you took it !!

CD Projekt Red >>> many western developper. Kudos to Poland's Gaming Industry. And wodka, piwo, pierogi, lala...

I wonder what they could have done with The Witcher if they had a $20M budget... I'm not sure I'd wish to touch any other RPG ever, and that's coming from someone who still hasn't had time to even try The Witcher yet.

Love me some Polish games!

And how much does a good Wii game like Conduit cost? Or a good DS game like Okamiden or a Castlevania? Just wondering...
