Okay, simple question -

Has Monster Hunter as a franchise now surpassed Dragon Quest to become the biggest 3rd Party franchise in Japan?

As you can see, Monster Hunter Portable 3rd on PSP is about to pass DQIX on DS to become the biggest selling 3rd party game in Japan... Ever. If MHP3 is available for download (I'm not sure if it is), then it's likely to have passed DQ9 already.

The next 2 3rd party games to appear in the Top 20 games in Japan are... You guessed it, Dragon Quest and Monster Hunter, though with PSN sales added it's very likely that MH is above DQ here..

Now the big spanner in the works comes in the form of Monster Hunter's performance away from PSP. While the games do spectacularly on Sony's handheld now, they don't do anywhere near as well on home consoles. Dragon Quest has an amazing sales record on both home consoles and handhelds.

Anyway. Enough talking from me. What do you guys think? If you even care...

PS. This is not a thread to discuss if the 3DS will get MH, if DQX will release on anything other than Wii or if Final Fantasy VII Remake is coming this Year. Keep it on topic please. OR ELSE!

I'd say not certain until Dragon quest X comes out.

If DQX outes the previous monster hunter. Than I'd say they're both growing. And even. Obviosly if DQX can't outsell the previous monster hunter. Then it loses. >_>

PS: I am happy Monster Hunter is doing really well, it is a much better game, and I got introduced to thefFranchise with the Wii, otherwise I would have missed this franchise. Does anyone know if MHP3rd will be making it over? 

More than likely will do despite the PSP's recent terrible performance, the series has experience quite good sales in the West this Gen.

Possibly might even release with the NGP
