I usually approve of what anonymous does, but this is ridiculous.
Go take down Westboro, or North Korean propaganda sites, or something that violates human rights in any sensible way, rather than just DDoSing the first thing you see.

I'm 100% behind Sony on this one. Hacking a massively used network and pirating games are absolutely nobody's right. Hopefully Sony wins, and even better if MS and NIntendo follow suit.
I can't believe people here hope that Sony actually wins this battle. I'm not condoning Anon's actions but Sony is clearly in the wrong as well. They're trying to fuck over their consumer base, for crying out loud. How can anyone get behind that?
Pretty much everyone involved here is being a total fuckwit. Anon for attacking innocent PSN users/Sony employees, Sony for being such cockgobblers and reaching FAR beyond what should be their scope of legal action (if there is a right to legal action here at all), and that assclown judge for letting it all go down.

But what Anon is doing by threatening the PSN and going after high ranking Sony officials families and such is beyond rediculous. |
Sorry to disappoint you, but Sony has EVERY right to go after whoever the hell they want to go after. Anybody can attempt to bring somebody else to court for something they deem to be courtworthy. It is then up to the court to decide if anything should come out of the case.
Money can't buy happiness. Just video games, which make me happy.
Words cannot describe how irate I am over this all...and I'm PRO piracy! Well, within rational limits. I certainly don't think it's stealing, and like Neil Gaiman said, it's more like lending to your friends or getting a used copy.
Anyway, Geohot wasn't really in the wrong, but let's be honest, he HAD to know that doing what he did would hurt sony by opening up the floodgates to hackers, piraters, and generally bad people. While he and others may very well be "I just want my Linux and Sony screwed me outta that), the sad truth is that what he did was give the community a gun and told them only to shoot at targets, you'd have to be pants-on-head retarded to not know precisely what was gonna happen when you gave away that information. he can claim ignorance all he wants, it won't hold up in court, and I fully expect him to crash and burn for it.
Keep in mind I'm actually in favor of console hacking, ESPECIALLY after sony took away an advertised feature.
As for anonymous...I hope Sony finds some way to find every one of them, sue the pants off them for damages, and ensure they're never legally allowed to come near a computer again. I find this incredibly funny since I used to support them wholeheartedly, their attacks on the mass cult scientology, child porn sites, and the Westboro Baptist Church is what I call vigilante justice, but this is NOT justice, this is a calculated attack on innocent people. Sony Employees are just doing their jobs, they don't make the decisions. People like me who enjoy playing PS3 online should not suffer becuase people who claim to be fighting for my rights decided to fuck everyone over so they can enjoy a sense of superiority. This is disgusting, this is pathetic, and I really do hope someone finds and destroys them.
This isn't about freedom, this isn't about provacy, this isn't a holy quest, it's a bunch of whiny hackers mad becuae sony's actually taking action against them. They're not fighting for our rights, they're just pissed off to all hell becuase they are scared that they won't be able to have games for free anymore in the future and their piracy just might lead to negative repercussions. they don't want to suffer the consequences so they're lashing out.
How pathetic.

How exactly is Sony trying to fuck their consumer base up? Quite frankly, I could care less if they have my IP for going to a website (I don't even remember for the life of me whether I didn't go check it out for shits and giggles). If they do anything with these IP addresses, Sony will have a lawsuit against them instantaneously, and I strongly feel courts would side against Sony, because people have the right to visit a website.

They shouldn't have asked for IP addresses to all those who visited Geohot's site and the judge SURE AS HELL shouldn't have granted their request. It was an information grab that was way outside the bounds of what they needed to pursue Geohot (a bullshit case in its own right but that's another argument).
In general, I'm not a fan of companies that treat their users like criminals and Sony just showed total contempt for the people who spent their hard-owned money on a PS3, even if their intent was to hack the shit out of the thing (completely within their rights to do as a consumer).

So by asking for an IP address they are labeling you as a criminal? Dude you need to take a chill pill.

Give me one good reason why they wanted those IP addresses that doesn't involve treating their customer base like criminals and punishing them in some form for visiting the website.
