Forums - Nintendo - I'm not buying this 3D thing

Sorry for the double post, but I just took the time to read the OP and it's full of bull.

Dual Screen, touch screen, HD, motion controls, analog sticks on controllers, rumble, all these things are/were considered gimmicks when they came out.

Some of them have pretty much become standards (HD, DA,  dual  screen for DS and  touch screen for the new handhelds).

Today's gimmick when used well usually become tomorrow's standard.

People like to throw around the word gimmick all the time like it's a bad thing.

Gimmicks are one of the things that moves gaming forward so it doesn't get stale.

3D will never become a standart, for the same reason HD didn't matter in sales for the 7th console gen, the only difference is that while HD will futurely be adopted just for confort, 3D will just dissapear and reappear from times to times, nvever becoming what it promisses.

Above: still the best game of the year.

How so and why didn't you read it before you posted?

Where's tl;dr version?

The first three sentences.

And I agree wholeheartedly. I never cared about the 3D to begin with, and now that I've seen it, I definitely think it's one of the most blown-out-of-proportion things in gaming in years.

"Instead of paying money to watch jiggling boobs in Dead Or Alive: Dimensions, spend that money going to a strip club if you don't have a girl of your own."

Maybe I want all three?  And I can pay the stripper for a "California Mudslide", too.

Soon Nintendo will learn the cost of this stupid move, and then the DS will outsell the 3DS (es expected!). Anyways, I was thinking in buying it as my first portable, but I'm not so sure now, I'm problably gonna have the 3D slider  turned off always, so I might as well just wait until it's price drops.

Have you played the 3DS yet?

I have heard rumors that the pop out effect isn't very good.

funny that most people that bash 3d talk about the pop out effect.  you guys do realize that the pop out effect is the cheezy bs 3d that only hack 3d things do.   the movies that are praised for their 3d, don't do this pop out effect, its the cheezy ones that do and it ruins the movies.  movies like spy kids and resident evil afterlife and many others do this amusement park ride 3d pop out effect.  that is not what 3d is for.  its a cheap ploy

But the pop out effect is what 3D is.  That is one of the 3 dimensions.

First off, for those of you who don't know me well, I am a massive Wii fan.  Unless you have been living under a rock, I am sure that you are aware that the Wii's sales have been dipping.  I will not buy a 3DS because I would start buying games for it instead of the Wii and this would take away from the Wii's software sales.  This might not sound like much but it is.  Look at my collection if you don't believe me.  I still need to add like 20 more games.

Both are Nintendo handhelds, Nintendo makes profit on software sales of both. What does you wanting more games for your Wii have to do with the 3D feature anyways?

The 3DS is supposed to have awesome 3rd party support.  To hell with that.  If I were to support them I'd be selling out.  I like supporting systems with little to no 3rd party support.  That's why I am such am big Wii and N64 fan.  I'd rather buy five Nintendo games than support developers that didn't give a diddly squat about Nintendo until the 3DS.  Super Street Fighter IV would've been great for Nintendo fans a year ago, Capcom.

Selling out? Getting more games on one console is selling out? So if you don't want to support a game just because it's third party, then just don't buy it. Why does the system have to lack third party support? More third party games mean a larger library to choose from. Many people skip out Nintendo consoles just because it lacks support. A Nintendo console with great first and third party support is the ultimate console for many gamers.

Speaking of the N64, wasn't it supposed to have 3D graphics?  Well...  wasn't it?  If not, it looks like I was ripped off.  Let me guess, this is a better form of 3D and 15 years from now Nintendo will show off an even better form of 3D and act like this 3D didn't exist.  Fool me once, shame on you.  Fool me twice, shame on me.  I won't be fooled again.

So? Thanks to rapid improvements in technology, 3D is way better now than it ever was. Won't be long before it is near perfection. This isn't the 80s or  90s. And the N64 wasn't even marketed on 3D. Nintendo learnt from their Virtual Boy mistake. They are using 3D because it is at the stage where it can be implemented well. Nowadays, nintendo only uses tech that are mature enough in technology to be usefull.

Also, I'm sick of getting the same crap.  I mean really... I already own the best game that will be released on the system or will there be a better game than Ocarina of Time on it?  I highly doubt it.  There's also Rayman 3D coming out for the system which is actually a 3D enhanced version of Rayman 2: The Great Escape that came out in 2000 for the Dreamcast and Splinter Cell 3D which is just a fancy name for Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory which came out in 2005.

It's just launch games. The system hasn't even reached a year in lifetime yet. You are acting like you know for a fact that all will be coming out are remakes and rehashes for all it's lifetime. Obviously we are going to get good game being released throught-out the coming years.

There also just isn't enough time in the day.  Between working, gaming on the Wii, and having sex I barely have enough time to eat, shower and sleep.  How in the world would I have time for the 3DS?  The answer is that I wouldn't.  You guys should follow suit.

This makes no sense, what does you not having enough time to play games on more than one console have to do with 3D not doing 'it' for you? And why should others follow suit?

Me buying this handheld would also be a betrayal to the magnificent 2D renaissance that is going on.  Awesome platformers like New Super Mario Bros. Wii, Donkey Kong Country Returns, Kirby's Epic Yarn, and Wario Land.

So because the system has a 3D feature, they can't make platformers on it? Of course they can, why would 3D deter from 2D games? It won't.

3D and several other lets make a barren game with bitchin' looking 3D environments games.

So if, hypothetically, SMG2 was 3D on Wii, the environments would be barren? Just because of 3D?

In conclusion, if I want to see a beautiful 3D environment, I'll step outside.  I play games to escape from reality and not to be like reality.  Am I the only one that feels this way?

3D doesn't make games realistic. Art direction and  the gameplay does, so I don't see how 3D would affect that.

And so...that is why I think your OP was full of bull. =)
