Forums - Gaming Discussion - The most powerful systems are never the sales leader

The SNES was the one and only system that was both the most powerful and the sales leader for its generation... I don't count the NEO-GEO because technically it's a 24-bit console, and the 3DO and Jaguar were 32 and 64 bit systems respectively, even though they were released in the middle of the 16 bit gen.

After that, it was PS1 (2nd most powerful of its gen), PS2 (3rd most powerful, with Dreamcast pulling up the rear), and now the least powerful console is the sales leader in the current gen lol.

You know I was always wondering why no one ever used the dollar sign for $ony, but then I realized they have no money so it would be pointless.

The NES was the least most powerful as well.

True, although if you want to get technical the Atari 7800 was the least powerful home console during that generation, but since it was essentially developed prior to the crash of '83, shelved and then re-released in the late 80's when the industry was revitalized we won't count that, so point taken superchunk

Actually NES was not as powerful as the 7800 either. I did count that in the same gen.

They had same CPU MHz but 7800 had more RAM and could output more colors, more sprites, better resolution, etc.

PS2 wasn't the best graphically but it's pretty much inargueable that the PS2s library laid waste and total decimation to the competition.

obviously it wasnt the most powerful, but wasnt

God of War II and Gran Turismo 4 the best graphics of that gen?

This makes me happy to know that the Wii will never pass the PS2

It should also be mentioned that at the time of the NES there were systems that could best be described as hybrid PC/Console systems (like the Atari ST) which were dramatically more powerfun than the NES but were not even close to being as popular ...

An of course, the Sega Master System, which was also more powerful than the NES, and it got to show it in some multiplatform games (which are a few since Nintendo had the Nintendomination controlling most 3rd parties back then)...

The Neo Geo was not even available i most countries...And sold less like a million?

So what I get with this thread is that the Wii would not have been the sales leader if it was more powerfull than PS3/X360?

Yeah that tends to happen for Wii fans out there.

They preach graphics don't matter mantra that after some point of time they start to belive in it ;)
