PSN vs XBL which is better?

PSN 187 40.22%

XBL 206 44.30%

SAME 34 7.31%

obama saved or created 465 million jobs 36 7.74%

Total:463

--And to be fair, there's some things the PS3 does do better:

  • With PS3, I can send pics from the internet to a friend.  It's a very cool feature
  • PS3 is the best porn browser in my house (no history means no evidence!)
  • PS3 lets me use the online features on Blu Rays
  • PSN messages last forever.  XBL messages disappear after 30 days.
  • PSN has HOME which some people seem to enjoy (I haven't gone HOME in two years).
  • PSN has Life With Playstation--it's curing cancer!!

What I was going to write got deleted. Fail.

But I am sure someone else will come up with the same answer I was going to write, hopefully. Many of the things you wrote are either half-correct or completely wrong, for eg. Online performance. Watch the video I posted, if you have online problems its probably because you are using wireless or because you are using a fail internet. I had better results with PSN then XBL.

Patches? Patches in my opinion is the biggest strength of PSN, if you look at games like MAG and Heavy Rain(has a 1 GB move patch) they have incredible amounts of patches but they are very useful which is

wait for it.......

impossible on XBL. Yeah, so you can just put in your disc and ignore your PS3 for some time(I however agree with MGS4, it doesn't use the PSN architecture for patching, and even I have never played an online MGS game for the same reason).

There are additional benefits to PSN because its open, we are getting a version of Portal 2 that's much closer to PC. We have free PSN themes. We can make custom themes ourselves for free. We have dynamic themes that look a lot better than the best themes on XBL. We can't make them, BUT the best part is PS plus users get many of these goodies along with avatars for free.  And its theirs forever. Not a rental There's less options, yes, but the choices have improved greatly and its much cheaper on PS plus then XBL. There's a 38 MvC avatar bundle coming up for PS plus for $3 or $4, can't remember.

There are many advantages of using a PSN, people just don't know it. Yes, I said it! True skill? Killzone 2 has it, Demon's Souls has it so its not exactly exclusive to XBL, and nevermind the fact that it doesn't work properly on the 360 since Gears of war 1 was supposed to have it but it never used it in my case, I always got matched up with the top dogs.

PSN is clearly not as well engineered as Live, seems like it was tacked only because MS has it.  Also, when the firmware updates come from Sony Japan, who couldn't care less about online/social gaming, PSN becomes nothing more than an expense where they will only do the bare minimum to make it functional.  You really get what you pay for.

1.  Nah, I'm using Internet provided by the phone company and even though my PS3 and 360 both support WiFi, I'm wired in.  The only reason I have a home phone at all is because that's the only way I can get really good internet.  I'll go back to my PSN history and tell you exactly which gamers from this site couldn't play with me on the PSN  (edit:  It was Puzzleface and Steroid/aka Megajerk).

2.  I'll wait and see how the Steam integration plays out.  It should be awesome.  I loved Portal.  Hopefully everyone that will be touting Portal and Steam will actually buy Portal or use steam.  I hope it's not like how everyone brags about Killzone's 3D without actually having a 3D TV.

3.  There's free themes and pics on XBL, too.  I tried not to name things that both services do the same......and how do you make themes?  If you mean wallpapers, XBL supports that, too.  I've even taken the Wallpaper of Heavenly Sword from the PSN, copied it to my PSP, and put it on my Xbox!  The Xbox supports the PSP's content just like the PS3 supports Xbox's Live Vision Camera (used it to video chat with my sis on the PS3 a few days ago--worked like a dream!)

4.  PSN has dynamic themes and they look awesome--and the actually move like Live Wallpapers. Xbox 360 has premium themes that are pretty awesome, too.  I considered that a draw.

Like I said, I didn't post anything that I didn't see first hand.  Here's a link to my game room--it's outdated, though.  I have a 250gb Xbox 360s in place of that white 360, now.  My old 360 is now connected to Kinect in my living room and using a WiFi network adapter.  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7_N3lijdNOI

Nowhere near as many as PSN. PSN has at least a hundred free themes, at least. It doesn't have free avatars, but PS plus has it.

And you can make themes. Icons and stuff, not just wallpapers, and you can put multiple wallpapers that keep changing like 5,6,7 any number that you want. Maybe even 100. It will change every time you log in or quit a game or an application.

Its free as well, and its official.

EDIT: lol I am not sure why I am talking about free themes, there are tons of free themes out there on internet made by other people that are great. And they are free, they are not always high quality and may not always suit your tastes, but that's where dynamic themes and custom themes come into play.

if you could please show me some dedicated server games for xbl i will retract my statement.

Battlefield: Bad Company 2

Gears of War 3

Homefront

Rainbow Six:Vegas

psn does have more player count in games, nothing is keeping microsoft from having more dedicated server games.

Dedicated server does not mean higher player count. Its developers choice for the last time.

could you provide a link that FFXI was cross platform. xbl doesnt allow for the free sharing of content that LBP has, so yes it would have it. also like gabe newall said, he could put steam onto xbl, but he could for psn.

http://www.giantbomb.com/cross-platform-multiplayer/92-4183/games/

dlc used to be free on pc (still largely is), until xbl for xbox 1 came, and they forced developers to charge for content, as they continue to do, and Gabe also doesnt like that, he prefers free

Didn't know you and Gabe were on a first name basis. And without Xbox LIVE on Xbox 1 you wouldn't have PSN or it wouldn't be 1/10th what it is today.

i was not aware that BAd company has dedicated servers, i could of sworn there were host migrations (could u prove i really dont know)

gears 3 isnt out yet (but yes it will have them, thank God)

homefront does.

i dont think rainbow 6 does, but sure.

and all but one of those games are also on ps3.

i meant to say:

and i said his last name, its bolded. hes the owner of valve and steam.

and ps2 had online play, so i dont know what ur talking about, but its a bunch of bs

I thought that the PS2 got online after the original Xbox got it.

And can you honestly say with a straight face that PSN would be pretty much the same without all of Xbox Live's pushing it to become better?

no obviously competetion makes things better (we r not a communist state.... yet). that goes for xbl too, also steam could have potentally given that compatition.

anyway i dont know if live came out first, but i do know that the ps2 had the data port for online since launch.

Live definitely came out first...why do you think Sony released the add on for the PS2 so you could play online?

^^^(I accidentally his "Done instead of Delete so I posted my prior post prematurely.  Anyhoo,) That sounds awesome.  My current theme is a pic of Batman (my kid is using the Grandia free theme).  It'd be awesome to use that wallpaper randomizer thing. How do I do it!?

--Forgot to mention the gamerpic/avatar awards that you get from XBL, too.  My current Avatar is wearing the space suit I won in Earthworm Jim and the Captain Smiley Head I won from Comic Jumper.  It also has Guilty Spark from Halo 3 floating around it.  All won from various games.

you dont pay to play. that reason alone PSN is better than Live IMHO, Espn, Facebook, cross game chat. y'all can keep it for 60 bucks, not worth it to me

you can get ESPN and facebook on PSN as well and just about every other web site in the world...for free !!!!

Why don't you try it and see what happens......

Its not that easy to use though :). But if you are interested:

The free avatar awards thing is there on the PS3, but [unfortunately] its all related to PS Home. You can't get free avatars at all, which does suck.

PSN is vastly superior, because it has a better selection of downloadable games.

I disagree. Until psn gets UNO, it will continue to be laughable in my eyes.
