prior to the 3DS launch i had expressed conserns that the mainstream consumer had already lost interest in 3D -- with or without glasses.

now mind you, i really had western consumers in mind when i thought that but the 3DS numbers in japan are not giving me much confidence in the future of 3D (from nintendo or otherwise).

3d is a solitary thing do you think,in gaming anyway

still we need to wait for mario

i'm not into the 3d hype personally in games or movies

i honestly don't know.

i mean, i'm for sure not counting the 3DS out for the count yet.  high price, few releases, the tsunami ... there are plenty of other factors to consider.  but still, when you look at the DS vs 3DS launches i can't help but feel like something is going wrong here ... and then i immediatly feel sad about the future of 3D content.

i had hoped that the piss poor 3D TV sales were mostly due to price/glasses which the 3DS is far better on ...

Well it is doing wonders in the Western Market, if Nintendo is to be beleived.

the article specifically calls out day-1 sales which in a large part means nintendo shipped more.  once it's been out in the west for 5 weeks like it has in japan we'll have a much better idea of how the 3DS is going to do in the west.

Well, I think it is going to suffer a little bit due to the high price, until Winter season, where it will do wonders...namely if First Party Software backs it up. Honestly you will see real trends in the 2nd and 3rd year, just like you did with the Wii and DS.

The key to all hardware is software. As you can see with the rise of the PSP.

3DS is priced too high, and is relying too much on technical prowess to sell.  I've always felt like Nintendo were pulling a PSP/PS3 with this, and that hasn't changed, only they don't have the network needed to back up such a product.

NGP really does have a chance to outdo the 3DS in Japan, assuming it's priced similarly.  Given the features it packs and its plethora of potential control schemes, it has some serious potential in the region.

I think Nintendo could've done either of two things to ensure the 3DS hit the ground running:

  • Priced the 3DS $50/ ¥5,000 lower out of the gate.  They priced the thing as high as their last home console!
  • Made Pokemon Black/White a launch title.
  • If either of these had happened, we'd be looking at quite a different picture.  That being said, titles like the Ocarina of Time Remake should have a nice effect on sales throughout the year.  However, neither that nor any of the other titles with set release dates will be as big as Pokemon, Mario Kart, of Super Mario Bros. on DS.

Hopefully Mario Kart 3DS will hit before the end of the year.

It's because of all the 3DS games being delayed after the earthquake. It was supposed to have quite a few more games out by the end of March, but many have been put on hold. For example, DoA, the One Piece game, Steel Diver, etc... Those 3 were originally planned to be released in March. Considering the launch line-up wasn't that hot, I'm surprised it hasn't fallen further down.

I'm waiting to pick up more games, but they just haven't been released! The other systems have had games delayed/cancelled as well, but they still have their large libraries to fall back on unlike the 3DS.

Me since the games were revealed, the fanboys since E3."

good stuff from PSP&PS3, as for the 3DS...meh

Nintendo has to learn people buy their products to play Nintendo games (mainly Mario ones), once we have some Mario games, the 3DS will be fine. Trying to be like the PSP will only lead to selling like the PSP.

Not quite. It would be worse.

    April, you say.

Someone needs to redo this picture

But with the 3ds and have both guys crying with the caption, it loses money, you could have the cash burning in the background a well

Do you know what loses money means, because I don't think you do. If you did, you sure are using the wrong measurement.

April fools! Good one Sony you almost had me.

Here lies the dearly departed Nintendomination Thread.

I dont think first party games are going to be a solution for the 3DS. The price is way too high, and if the NGP comes at a similar $, Nintendo will be in problems.
