What I fined more incredible is the PS2's top 30 only sold 121 million, yet the PS2 sold 1.5 billion in software. So either a lot of undertracking or there's a serious wack of legs.

These lists only account for exclusive or console-exclusive software. A lot of the PS2's top sellers are multiplatform games, most prominently yearly EA titles like FIFA, Madden and Need for Speed. |
The PS2 is amazing really.
When you look at the exclusives, it only had 25 games sell over 2 Million units.
When you look at every game, it had 115 games sell over 2 Million units.
It has more 2 Million sellers than the Wii has 1 Million sellers. That's amazing.

Grand Theft Auto
It's rather amazing how concentrated the wii software is. The top 30 exclusives take up ove 50% of the sales. 326.8 out of 648.9 Then again this site also only has 788 million of over 1.5 billion ps2 software counted so who knows if there are any undertracked in the top.
Here is the problem with this comparison. The Wii is pretty much all exclusive since its third party support is almost non existent. If a comparison was made that was top selling 30 titles no matter if exclusive or not this comparison would be much closer. You're pretty much cutting of at least half the sales of PS3 and even more so of the 360 by cutting out the CODs, Rockstar titles, and EA games.
| RolStoppable said: That's a given due to the huge disparity in terms of third party support between those two consoles. The aforementioned EA is exemplary of this: I think on the PS2 they alone accounted for about 25 % of the two million selling games while on the Wii they only account for about 5 % (if even that) of one million sellers. |
30 of those 115 2M Seller games are EA Games, although 14 of them are EA Sports annual Madden/FIFA/NBA games.
12 of the Wii's 104 1M Sellers are EA Games, with only 4 of them being EA Sports.
Your percentages aren't that far off really.
Just to compare the 1M Sellers of EA between PS2/Wii... EA had 66 1 Million sellers on PS2, out of a total 223. This is with VGChartz vastly undertracking a LOT of PS2 data.

I stopped reading after "bundled titles will be included". That just makes it pointless IMO.

The results wouldn't really change much. Wii would still be far ahead, PS2 still in a comfortable second place and the 360 in front of the PS3. Closer, yes. Close, no. |
Except for the fact Wii Sports should not be on the list. Its sold with every console. You have no choice but to have the game.

Even by removing Wii Sports from the list, the overall results wouldn't change. |
Regardless, these numbers are deceptive. We all know that the Wii would win, but that does not mean you should include this software which is almost always bundled with the wii. If anything, you should only include the Japanese sales because from what I understand, it is not bundled there. If there are more territories, they should be included too. I do understand where he is coming from, and am fine with this list because I know the end result will be the same, but I also understand where tuscaniam is coming from. That being said though, we would have to find a way to eliminate the bundled sales for games like forza and others. Not worth it imo.
