Are the books worth a read, Scoobes?

Depends how much you're into fantasy. If you're a fantasy reader and especially if you liked the original Witcher (game) then I'd say yes. They're fairly short and entertaining although I do get the feeling something may have been lost in translation though. I'm not quite willing to learn Polish for the series though

The first book reads like a collection of short stories whilst Geralt is recovering in the temple of Melitelle. You can also tell he's taken a range of influences from fairy tales and folk stories and put his own spin on them in his fantasy world. The second reads like a more traditional novel and introduces more characters and delves into the world in a bit more depth. Worth a read imo.

That's because second one translated to english is first book of five book long saga. Next book IIRC is slated for release in 2011 in west.

Also first Witcher had a lot of minor references to books : like the part when Geralt talks to Jaskier and tell's something along the lines "Maybe you will tell me I also had a dragon friend".

Thanks for letting me know! Will have to add the next one in my "list of books to read" this year. I take it you've read the whole saga? Would love to know what you think (but no spoilers please!) .

Honestly speaking i read it 4 or 5 times all 7 books ;) Ranks up among my favourites fantasy books.

If i had to find closest match in style it would be brutal dark fantasy like Game of Thrones with more action and less intrigues.

I'm kinda interested in the book too! But your reference disturbes me. I can't stomache Game of Thrones constant position switching. It invariably leads me to become disinterested in the caste members as I disassociate with any particular protagonist and get pissed off at the constant plot breaks. I love the dialogue and plot but that one major hurdle I could not overcome to enjoy the series. Do these Witcher books have similiar properties? Also are they availible for import? I very much doubt Australia sell these books locally.

It's timed-exclusive to PC. It's coming to console, but the date is TBA. The action in this game is basically what Fable should've been like.

well so was the first one, to be honest the fact that they still don't have a publisher and have not actually started porting it outside of a few levels to see if it's possible I don't see it happening TBH. There is still a chance but it is looking less and less likely, and even if it does happen it won't be for a long time anyway so for the time being I think it's safe to consider it exclusive.

It's actually supprising that EA or even Sony haven't picked it up.

It is surprising Microsoft hasn't picked this up, in truth. Sony isn't exactly really that great at picking up PC devs and giving them adequate backing. This is one of Microsofts strengths.

Microsoft seem to have given up on buying games for the 360 TBH

They've also seem to have given up on adding more internal developer, they're actually growing smaller not bigger.

I wont be able to play this game until November because that's when I will update my rig. (or skip that, it won't be until well into 2012 since I'll be busy with Skyrim).

I do meet the recommended sistem requirements already with my Radeon 4850 right now but I wanna experience this game in its full glory with my new Crossfire Radeon 6950 PC.

I'll put the same issue in another order: when I'll have bought the Witcher I and II and after a while they'll start approaching the top of my backlog, I'm quite sure I'll feel again the need to upgrade my PC!    ...After all last time was at the end of 2009, for what regards computing and graphics power (while instead I obviously upgrade HDDs whenever needed).

My only issue is about monitors: I hope they'll keep on making 16:10 screens, as for serious use it's the most "horizontal" ratio I find acceptable, rather, even with a 19" 1440x900, compared to my previous 4:3 17" CRT I used at 1024x768, I often feel the need for more vertical space, while I almost never run out of horizontal pixels. For my next monitor, my first choice could be a 1920x1200 or, if I'll find a big one affordable enough, a 2560x1600.

I know what you mean about 16:10 it is the best ratio for PC monitors especially as most information on the web is still displayed more vertically than horizontally, and many games benefit from more virtical space IMO. Unfotunatly there seems to be a real push towords using 16:9 for all screens thses days.
