nice theory

but actions in the past don't give garanties for the future
so Nintendo might not have those 10 games you are talking about

maybe they have, maybe they have more than 10, maybe they have just 4

Well they are busy making wii's to make games for it?

Nope it's that they don't feel pressure to release AAA titles so long as the Wii can sell on proverbial Steam and 3rd party games. This gives Nintendo a chance to extend it's heightened sales periods from AAA releases to a time when they wouldn't sell out otherwise. It's also decent for 3rd parties as they get a period of amnesty to get used to the hardware platform and try to come out with some games that are as good as first party(let's face it Nintendo rocks at using the motion controls even on the PS3 a lot of 3rd party devs seem just sloppy or like they tacked it on.) It's bad though because in the meantime we're stuck with mostly 3rd party rush jobs(cause they never saw the Wii coming) and garbage with a few good games and some 1st party titles.

I doubt it... 4 is extremly low as I can pretty much name 4 games from Nintendo yet to come out on the Wii that we know of. Nintendo has a good amount of development studios. Then you have seemingly second party developers like Camelot Software Planning which has only released games for Nintendo systems since 1999(formerly a Sega subsidiary) I think there's a good number of games coming from the big N that we don't even know about just yet, they've always been decent at keeping secrets.

Is no one ever happy?

In the last 13 months we received Zelda, Metroid, and Mario. The 3 biggest franchises Nintendo has. But apprently that is not enough.

Next 6 months we get Mariokart and Smash Bros, both with online. People still complain.

What about the lesser franchises you say Warioware, Paper Mario, Mario Strikers, Pokemon, Batallion Wars, DK, Big Brain, Fire Emblem, Mario Party. Oh yeah we have had those too.
....
What about new IPs? Excitetruck, WiiSports,WiiPlay already. Wiifit and WiiMusic promised for 08.

What is it that is getting delayed. People are having a hard time coming up with things they haven't done. Sure Animal Crossing is one, but Pikman, who is holding off buying a system for that title. And as for this mysterious Donkey Kong game, I hate to tell you but we have had a couple including one on the Wii. They kind of suck. Noone at Nintendo promised a DK platformer. Yeah is seems likely but....

Don't even get me started on Zelda. We get 2 at most pre generation. We got one at launch, guess when the next one will be.... 2010-2011.

Final* Word on Game Delays:

The game will not be any better or include more content then planned. Any commnets that say so are just PR hogwash to make you feel better for having to wait.

Delays are due to lack of proper resources, skill, or adequate planning by the developer.

Do be thankful that they have enough respect for you to delay the game and maintain its intended level of quality.

Well it makes sense to hold back some franchises because the major ones are large enough to stimulate console sales.

It didn't make sense to release SMG with brawl. They want to use both games to sell consoles and since the consoles are in short supply they want to make sure that they can use the software to properly market the console.

I'm a huge fan of smash, so this kind of sucks for me, but I do understand it from an business point.

Its not what people say that is offensive, it is how we react to it that determines offense or not- REBT theory of Albert Ellis.

Some of you seem to be misinterpreting; Nintendo is not STOPPING SOFTWARE DEVELOPMENT because of the hardware shortage, they are merely revising their plans for how they are going to release said software.

There is no point in releasing 2 or 3 blockbusters in a row if you aren't making enough Wii's to get in the hands of willing consumers. As a result, this demand is messing up their previously planned out release schedule or whatnot.

I agree with the poster that said this is in a way good news. I am 100% certain that development on these games will continue; they aren't about to tell their developers to man an assembly line in order to help them with the shortage. As a result, the development cycles on these games will probably be increased a bit, and I imagine we benefit in the long run from additional polish, new features, etc.

I think the OP is right, I'll add a second theory to this. I think this holiday season is very crucial for third party sales to determine if they'll allocate more reasource toward the Wii system, and nintendo is pretty delay some of its big title to give third parties a chance to sell their softwares. IF third party software get some nice sales number then it'll be more attractive for them to put more resource into making wii games, because there is no garanteed the wii will continue endlessly sell out without quality games in the future. it'll require more than a year for 3rd party developers to make a top quality game. if everyone is happy with their software sales number then by the next holiday season we'll definitely see more better quality titles released or anounced for 2009. Its definitely a good strategy for nintendo to pull back on their big guns and share the pie with 3rd parties.

Nintendo definately have a history of making the games for release date instead of finishing them.

I think the OP's interpretation of that statement is mistaken.

Yeah. They are talking about Software discs. Not games. Some companies have complained Nintendo hasn't provided enough game discs to them. Or atleast that's how i see it. They don't know how many copies of games they need to make, so your big blockbusters might be understocked early in number. (Aka... get Smash Brothers preordered ASAP.) They don't know how many to sell because they don't know how much software the Wii is going to sell. How much software the Wii can sell is as much an unknown as how much hardware it can sell.

I am a Nintendo fan too, always have been a staunch supporter of Nintendo but don't kid yourself. Nintendo let alot of gamers down with the Nintendo Wii. Some of this dissapointment has been carried over from the GameCube!

Your three big titles. That you say should be enough well the first one Zelda:TP we all were looking forward to it on GameCube I didn't mind getting it for Wii but from Zelda in November to Metroid in August all we got were mini-game compilations. Sure Metroid and Mario were great but Nintendo had initially set them for spring/summer releases!

Oh and Metroid being one of Nintendo's biggest lol, Metroid is one of the poorest selling franchises in Nintendo's catalogue. Don't think for a second Metroid is one of the biggest in any way shape or form.

Pokemon one of the franchises you also list. Battle Revolution was rushed and cheaply made recycling many 3D models from the older games as well as lacking any substance. Just one battle after another, it was a major step backwards from the GameCube Pokemon games. Nobody wants a game that is worse then any other one since the N64!

You also bring up other titles PaperMario and DK for example. Well both were GameCube ports, gamers want to see polished Wii games not sloppy GameCube ports. DK was horrible and PaperMario while alright was not what many gamers wanted to see with a new console.

WiiFit , WiiPlay , WiiSports and WiiMusic. Ummm they are all pretty much tech demo's with some added functionality. In know way should they be considered full blown games. The Mii's are cheaply made 3D models and the games themselves just show off how the hardware works. They are cheaply made and rushed to attract casual gamers who don't care about the visuals.

Essentially in this entire year we got two AAA games. Of those two Metroid is not even one of Nintendo's bigger franchises. What about AnimalCrossing and Pikmin3 believe it or not both titles have exceptionally large fanbases and their are people waiting for them. Other titles like DisasterDayOfCrisis and Kirby are also on the wanted list.

Fact is last generation Nintendo used to release one or more titles each month. I know because I bought one Nintendo first party title a month for years. I have 32-Nintendo first party games, but this generation Nintendo has slipped up not releasing anything for months!

I guess I just feel differently I. We only got 1 of each of the big franchises on the the gamecube's 5 or so year run. 2 for metroid. I remember when the n64 came out. With Mario 64 at launch with waves or drought afterward.

First years of games systems are always slow and people always complain. If next year still has dry spots then complain.

And you can bitch about wii branded titles and Miis but they are here to stay. Some long time gamers like me love them. And I also love that they have launched the Wii into first place affording Nintendo the ability to do many more things then they could with the Gamecube.
