Absolutely bonkers, I mean this isn't anything like with geohot, and their still here.
I'm beginning to think these people would support anything if it had Sony involved, read into that what you will but think recent wars etc.

I'm not aware of any company every trying to apply those rules to non company entities, but they are there........ I guess following those rules you could argue those hackers ran the original Sony software to see how it works so that they could change it's behavior through a mod, and technically that's a grey area ( but like I said I'm not aware of anyone ever suing anyone except a business over something like this..) |
Yup that's the thing I'm referring to, indeed, grey area like you say.
There was a big case with this going on a few years ago, can't for the life of me remember, or even remember the term for this type of reversing in a closed environment. "white room", "clean room"...something like that, was just looking at it on wikipedia the other day....Oh thats OT, sorry but anyways this is going to be interesting how it all pans out.

Anyone can guess. It takes no effort to throw out lots of predictions and have some of them be correct. You are not and wiser or better for having your guesses be right. Even a blind man can hit the bullseye.

People are generally apprehended and arrested before they go to trial. is that wrong?
The police will not just raid a house on a random whim, and especially if it's not something to do with drugs, weapons or child porn etc. and even then they'd usually need some form of warrant. They would need the court's go-ahead to do this raid, so someone in the chain thinks that Sony and the law have enough to bring this guy and/or his stuff to book.
if he's got nothing to worry about, we'll find out soon enough and I'm sure he'll be entitled to collect compensation of some sort.

It is the whole ideal, if it doesn't effect me, I shouldn't care about it.
For most sony fans linux removal didn't effect them, and most of them arguably have no idea what rootkit is. They see sony as the saint that can do no wrong. As much as I like sony products, I can't say I feel sorry for them or support them, they have yet to target an actual pirate.

Best stay on the fence on this case. The people taking this way too seriously either way need to chill out.
hackers have been let off too easily for far too long.
if microsoft stop being cowards and join sony along with nintendo and other large media companies they can prevent piracy at its roots.
when that dipshit gets fined, others will be more wary and if everyone media company fines every hacker, few people will be likely to do it.
well done sony, keep at it until most of them are in jail or face fines they cant pay even if they work their entire lives. should teach them a lesson.

Not quite sure what your angle is, you don't like hackers or you don't like pirates...or you just can't tell the difference it sounds like.
