Forums - Sony Discussion - How do you like Killzone 3?

Pretty damn good.

SP good stuff:

nice variety of missions

great combat

good feeling of genuine combat mayhem with a nice mix of solo / part of a team dynamics

okay plot - mix of in the team with high level Helghast power struggles serves as an okay backdrop to the gameplay

SP could be better stuff:

plot isn't developed well enough though given the setup, and too many characters remain too paper thin

ending is definately too abrupt - although you could say the same of KZ2 so I guess it's GG style

cutscenes are in-game engine so more consistent than the - superb - CGI cutscenes in KZ2, but the encoding is oddly weak - lot's of blocking when they transition in/out.  Nothing major but odd in such an otherwise graphicall polished title

MP

pretty good so far.  like it although miss some of the options from KZ2.  hopefully these will be patched in

Coop

lots of fun

Botzone - yup, tried it

very good bots I thought.  I guess there's minimal actual need to use this mode - given you gain no experience - but I think all MP titles should have bots so I'm glad to see them there.  A great way to learn maps and have a few quick matches before going online.  Also nice for territories with patchier connections.

Best bit overall - the Jungle mission in SP.  Liked it a lot and nice to actually have a truly alien feeling environment.  I understand why - like Avatar in the movies - there is a tempation to make games more broadly appealing by making environments / aliens more familiar to our Earth trained eyes, but damn given you can have near enough any setting in a game I want to see more "different" environments, and the Helghan jungle delivered nicely.  Jungle enough to be familiar, but different enough to be exotic and interesting to jaded eyes.

Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...

Is this the VGC clan?

Some people have a nasty habit of overhyping things.  I didn't play Killzone 2 so I pretty much accepted it was the second coming as far as graphics go..  I fired up Killzone 3 and watched the opening cinema.  IS THIS WHAT THE GAME LOOKS@LIKE?, I thought.  No, it wasn't.  A great looking game but nowhere near what I was expecting.

Controls are great.  I have no idea what's going on as far as the story goes.  Online was pretty bare-bones but still fun.  I'll go at it with realistic expectations later today and try co-op a little later in the week.  Not a bad purchase at all.

Not sure if you have reached a point.. but the graphics become significantly better when ..Rico gets a beard and a semi afro basically. The beginning of the game isn't nearly as good.

Nah,  just finished the mission where we escort the armored personell carries through the city.  Played part of the next level and then went into multi-player.  I'll try KZ3 again in a few hours but you do realize you just built my expectations back up to superhuman levels, right?

I finished the single player campaign. Although it was short (just 4h 15m adding up all the chapter times) there was never a dull moment. There's no filler content at all, lots of variety in gameplay and locations.

My favourite levels are the ice level and the junkyard level. The swell of the ocean with the ice floating on it while you fly from oil rig to oil rig is absolutely beautiful. The lighting and sense of scale in the junkyard level are amazing.

The space level was gorgeous too, I wouldn't have minded if it had lasted a bit longer. The end credits deserve a mention too, that's how it should be done. I immediately fired up the end credits again to have it blast through the speakers.

The story and the acting is the big weakpoint of the game and serves as a little more then a break to have a drink. The gameplay makes up for it. It just keeps building more and more intense until the end.

I'm ready to play the sp again and finish the co-op game we've got going.
