That depends. How good is his hypothetical game compared to his all-too-real raps?

I would download it and then use a Sony dvd burner to burn a million copies on blank Sony DVD-Rs and spread it free into the world!!

It doesn't really matter how many pirated it when close to 90% can't pirate because their iPhone/iPad is not jailbroken. If 90% bought less than 30 copies, statistics would go for about 3 lost sales, which is less than 0.5% of the pirates playing the game. Assuming nobody with a jb iPhone actually bought the game. 

Not that piracy is good. It's just that those pirated copies number doesn't say anything about how the game would have sold otherwise.

I would look at the game, decide if its worth its price to buy. If it is buy it, if not, play something else. Same thing I do with my hacked Android phone, my PC, and my consoles.

Just because its hacked, doesn't mean its automatically being pirated by everyone. However, you're friend is a crazy and should have set up an ad based version.

That would constitute piracy, a criminal offense. In that case I would hope you went to jail and Geohot was awarded millions in damages.

"MS is doing isn´t release something for hackers, you release something to people develop new things over a new platform".  And that differs from Geohot's work how exactly? Call them hackers, or independent developers, call them whatever you wish but it amounts to the same thing.  MS released software to allow private individuals to use the kinect in ways different than its originally intended purpose, Geohot's software provides the same service for iphone and PS3 users.

ND3G, sorry, you go a way, I go other. I don´t know your age, but you are not over 20... Hacker is one thing, developer is other, Pirate is other, etc..etc... I won´t continue talking after reading what you wrote above.

Are you implying that I am somehow youthfully naive? If that is the act I assure you that you are mistaken.  I am well over 20 and a mechanical engineer and as an engineer I know a great deal about so called 'backwards engineering', I know what a person can and cannot legally do with another person's physical or intellectual property and I can state with 100% certainly that Geohot's actions are in no way illegal. 

You may not appreciate his work but he is perfectly within his rights to continue his craft.

A hacker is just another developper, like you and me, at least like me.

What people do with kinect is hacking. That's the right term.
And what GeoHotz does with the PS3 is also hacking.

And there's nothing wrong with it. It's just writing code.

Now if you use this code to use copies of games you did not pay for, then it's illegal.

To make an analogy, sueing Geohot for his work is like sueing Toyota when someone is driving over speed limits. That would not come to your mind, would it?


And I don't even have to say I'm against piracy, and driving too fast. I am.
