Song of fire and ice is serious junk. george martin is seriously fucked. the characters are shallow and hollow...he turns to cheap crazy things to try and give them depth...oh look [character] fucks a black chick and talks about licking semen off her own face and fingers while referring to them as people see how deep her character is now! most characters can be summed up in just a few words...some even less.

his main plot driver happens to be the murder of main characters and introduction of new ones (some who only last a couple chapters). i like murdering and maiming main characters...it creates suspense when they get into dangerous situations... but its more surprising when the characters dont die...except that since they are alive it means they still have the opportunity to die. mass character wipeouts should occur near the end or at a few critical moments throughout(large battles for example). murdering them pretty constantly throughout just makes it expected.

Wow, this sounds terribly lame. Guess it all goes downhill after the first book.

I sincerely disagree with M. Bubbles, for the record. The series is excellent throughout.

I'm inclined to take his word for it, mainly considering I didn't really enjoy the series in the first place.

lulz, this doesn't bode well for me, I've just started reading from the first book, If it's as bad as you say then the next 750 pages are gonna be hell.

no issues with the first book.  its almost exactly as the show is, if youve watched that.

Missed the show, I'm going in blind.

PS One/2/p/3slim/Vita owner. I survived the Apocalyps3/Collaps3 and all I got was this lousy signature.

The Narrative of Arthur Gordon Pym of Nantucket was one of the strangest books I have ever read. Not just for something written by Poe either. It was very gothic and dark but not overly hard to read. It has some great aspects and some painful ones.

Now reading: Walden by Thoreau.

Bringing this thread back to life!

Haven't had the opportunity to read anything for the past 2 weeks, but I'm gonna try to make up for lost time.

This was a very short book (less than 200 pages), and a quick read. If you like cougars, you'll love the first part. I for one found it the weakest part of the book. Some of the aspects could've been better developed (a problem I usually find with short books), especially the 'reading' side of the novel. The book also seems to have something to offer to Nazi apologetics. I felt sorry for Hanna on an individual level, but the author failed in his attempt to make the German nation seem less culpable for the Holocaust.

I found Walden very boring.

Another book for my thesis.

Here are the plays I've read so far in my theater class.

I enjoyed all of them. Woyzeck is probably my least favorite of the bunch and A Raisin in the Sun probably the best.

Glad to see this thread is still alive. Here is what I've read since I last posted:

Pretty long, but well worth it. It's not an easy read, but it's quite fascinating how it manages to paint pre-WWI Europe, while taking place in a sanatorium.

Aftter reading more difficult books I wanted to read something light. And True Blood is trashy, but fun, so I thought I'd enjoy the book too. Boy, was I wrong. This is probably one of the few instances when the Hollywood adaptation is better than the book, and the Hollywood adaptation actually has more content than the book. unlike True Blood, Season 1, Dead Until Dark focuses slely on Sookie. The other characters are in the background, and they're not well developed. What's worse is that the book doesn't give sookie any more attention than the TV show does, so it's essentially just like the TV show, except with less content. Really disappointing. Probably the worst book I've in years.

Better than I was expecting.
