Why ds? The psp versions have both sold 5M +.

The breakdown by console is as follows: 22 (16 below 250,000)- XBox 360 When you look at the distribution you will notice that they have been heavily supporting the systems which are selling the slowest and have the highest development costs. Personally, looking at their year it becomes clear why they're losing money being that they're (probably) somewhat profitable on their PSP, PS2, Nintendo DS and Wii libraries but are certainly losing a fortune on their XBox 360 and PS3 libraries. |
Thanks for the information, HappySquirrel. Everything suddenly makes a lot more sense when you demonstrate how Take-Two is allocating its developmental resources. Any publisher that puts 5 times as many games on the PSP as on the DS is going to reap what they sow. Meanwhile, Carnival Games is about as half-assed a title as you can get, and yet it probably will end up their second most profitable game this year after Bioshock. Unbelievable.
End of 2008 totals: Wii 42m, 360 24m, PS3 18.5m (made Jan. 4, 2008)
You guys that want a GTA game on the Wii are kinda silly. You are the exception to the typical Wii owner and gamer.
Im going to say it here, and you can take it however you want to, but if you want a game like GTA, then you made a serious mistake in purchasing the Wii.
The typical Wii owner doesnt go to game sites, because s/he is a casual gamer.
The typical Wii owner doesnt play games with gratuitous violence, because s/he is a casual gamer (and of course probably a woman and 50).
The typical Wii owner wouldnt buy GTA, because they are too busy playing Wii Sports and other games that are short, simple and easy to pick up.
The typical Wii buyer is a parent who wants a good wholesome time for her children and not a blood soaked bonanza that the PS3 and X360 have.
If you want games like MTG4, Gears of War, GTAIV and the such, you. bought. the. wrong. system.
Take Two has not made any mistakes in its choice to not make a GTA for the Wii, because only you few people that are not casual gamers would really want it, I would venture to say that maybe as many as 80-90% of Wii owners would be revolted by the idea of playing a GTA game on their beloved console. why would TT develop a game thats made for powerful systems onto a far weaker system just so it could bomb in sales because it doesnt match the MASS amount of Wii owners wants?
Sure, Carnival Games sucked, but God it was right up the Wii's ally, as is Table Tennis. Are they making a mistake by not making more of these games for the Wii? Sure, I'll go for that.
GTA? Not so much. If you want that, then you are obviously not entirely in the Wii's "demographic" and should consider purchasing one of the other two systems to complement it.

The typical gamer doesn't visit game sites because s/he is a causal gamer. This was the case before the Wii. Casual gamers are the gamers that have made the GTA franchise what it is. As for the rest of your post. It's so random and misinformed i wouldn't know where to start. |
To add to your brief and well stated post ...
Any game that sells more than (about) 5 Million copies required a certain ammount of cross-over support to get to sales of that level; when you're looking at a game like Grand Theft Auto which (easly) sold more than 20 Million copies across the PS2, XBox and PC it becomes clear that the 'casual' gamers many Sony fans now think are unimportant were major players in GTA's success.
Ok, and your telling me that the Wii owner is a typical Gamer? Or would you say that a Wii owner is even more so a casual gamer and would be far less inclined to come to a site like this one?
I also fail to see where Im miss informed or random. If you want Grand Theft Auto IV, or a Grand Theft Auto game, you buy the system that is targeted to the demographic that purchases those games, not the system whos demographic is fun wholesome family entertainment.
Sounds more like lazy posting.

Any console that is priced at above $200 or has been on the market for less than (about) 18 months is selling primarily to the core early adopting gamer ... Certainly, the Wii has probably sold to a more 'casual' or 'family friendly' userbase than any system since the NES but this doesn't mean that publishers should ignore it as a 'core' gamer console.
Personally, I would argue that Take-Two's biggest mistake is that they're trying to attract a market Nintendo is trying to create which puts them in direct competition with Nintendo; not a particularly good place to be. If they focused on producing games in a market space where Nintendo wasn't focused on (say a sandbox game involving 'Mature' content) there sales would probably be much better ...
Essentially, Take Two is focused on a Red-Ocean marketplace and are (unfortunately) not the toughest shark in the ocean
