Nice.

Gears of war style JRPG. I'll be introducing this to my friend who has wii.

uh, these numbers are quite common for Japan. Even for consoles. The first week numbers for even franchises like Valkyria Chronicles and Ace Attorney only do this much most of the time. Seriously, people are SURPRISED over this? You sharp dropoffs like this ALL THE TIME. Only stuff like Monster Hunter, Dragon Quest, Mario, and Final Fantasy do million seller numbers. Seriously, chill OUT, it's not shocking, it's not new, nothing to see here. It'll be FINE

It will definately sell more than Blue Dragon.

It is a fun RPG, on a console with a huge userbase, made by the creator of Final Fantasy. It will have legs, unless every Sakaguchi fan in Japan is a Sony fanboy.

Also, if it was sold out first week. Couldn't these sales just be becasue they weren't refilling stock fast enough?

I LOVE ICELAND!

I don't think the comparisons with Blue Dragon really do TLS any favors.

The Wii userbase is actually 50 times larger than the 360 was when Blue Dragon launched.  Blue Dragon also boosted hardware sales from 4,460 to 37,821.  Userbase doesn't mean as much when they get larger, but the 360 base was so tiny you really couldn't have expected much better for Blue Dragon.

It also had pretty decent legs throughout the holiday season, so it'll be fairly tough for TLS to beat its total sales.

Or it could be that the appeal of these games really is that small. Look at the sales of new IP RPGs in Japan, and it bears that out.

Appeal doesn't equal sales.  A lot of games appeal to me, but I didn't buy them for a # of reasons (ie. lack of time, doesn't own the console that they are released on, etc).  I'm sure that the appeal of this game is much greater than the what the sales #'s reflect.  TLS appeals to me, but I don't own a Wii.  So I may not end up getting it.

It wasn't sold out first week, it had a 69% sell through week 1 according to Dengeki.

All hail the KING, Andrespetmonkey

PSx jrps, arranged by worldwide sales for all RPGs, come in at positions

9 11 21 28

Same thing for DS

3 8 19 23 26 38 41 44

JRPGs are more alive than they ever have been.

Yeah, no.

Take out of that list Pokemon and Mario games and... any other game that don't have a damn story... how many do you get?

Now, pepole who are "JRPG fans" are usually fans of the genre because of the fact that JRPGs used to have great stories, and they say the genre is dead because there are almost no more JRPGs with great, engaging stories.

Games like Final Fantasy Tactics, Xenogears, Chrono Trigger, Suikoden 2 etc etc.

Although Pokemon and the Mario games are JRPG in their genre because of their battle system, they don't share the same userbase and the same fans with games like Final Fantasy, Xenowhatever etc etc.

Bet with Dr.A.Peter.Nintendo that Super Mario Galaxy 2 won't sell 15 million copies up to six months after it's release, the winner will get Avatar control for a week and signature control for a month.

Well, it's not the same exact userbase, but I'm sure there are overlaps.  Afterall, it's not law that you can only be part of one userbase.  I'm sure there're plenty of gamers who like BOTH JPRGs and Mario games.

I can gurantee anyone, ANYONE that this game would sell far better in the West than in Japan, and that it's likely it'd be a million-seller. So let's hope they do the right thing

@those who are talking about ports- It's a Wii game. You can say all you like and make your own, valid reasoning, but that isn't going to change, for better or for worse

Here lies the dearly departed Nintendomination Thread.

Obviously they overlap, but pepole just don't play these games for the same reason.

Personally I play any game of any genre for the same reason - because it looks fun and it appeals to me lol
