JRPGs are more alive than they ever have been.

 

Although Pokemon and the Mario games are JRPG in their genre because of their battle system, they don't share the same userbase and the same fans with games like Final Fantasy, Xenowhatever etc etc.

Well, it's not the same exact userbase, but I'm sure there are overlaps.  Afterall, it's not law that you can only be part of one userbase.  I'm sure there're plenty of gamers who like BOTH JPRGs and Mario games.

Obviously they overlap, but pepole just don't play these games for the same reason.
