Forums - Sales - 1.8m wii's a month, what to do with them?

I wonder how long it will take before Wii sales slow down... even the ps2's sale slew down after a good amount of sales.. so figure.. maybe around 30 million it will slow?

hmmmm... so your saying because it only sold 1 million a month last year that it will not sell more this year.... do your realize that production was only 1 million a month for at least half of the year... the Wii has been sold out regardless of the time of year.. yea I'm sure that you can digg up a few places on this whole earth that has low Wii demand.. but ALL of the Major markets have entered the Wii craze... With SSBB, WiiFit, and MK coming I don't see why it would slow down at all. I mean last year the Wii was sold out with basically nothing out but Zelda and Wii Sports, then Mario Party later in the year... 08 will be repeat of 07... just on a larger scale(especially software sales)

nintendo have increased production to huge levels and while i dont doubt they can sell them all (and a shitload more) this month and probably january too (all the people who couldnt get one for xmas), surely they cant sell all that many in the slower months of next year ( they were only selling a million or so for most of this year) so the question is what will they do with all the extra machines?

thoughts please

Bad premise, frankie_baby.

Demand is going to INCREASE next year.

Yes, INCREASE.

I explain all this in this thread I titled called "To those who don't understand my 60 million in 2008 prediction"

http://www.vgchartz.com/forum/thread.php?id=10909

I left out one game which would aid in the points I made in here as a poster pointed out called Monster Hunter 3 but Wii Fit & Super Smash Bros. Brawl alone will drive Wii demand to insatiable levels. The rest just makes it more insane on top of it.

Nintendo's 1.8 million is woefully not enough to satisfy demand as Nintendo knows now. They will do even more increases next year as they work out production and supplier situations. Yes, it will be once again unprecedented. But you better get used to that word throughout the life of this system because that's the kind of effect it will have throughout its existence. UNPRECEDENTED.

2008 will see Nintendo getting a better but not irongripped handle on matching demand resulting in a year where sales look absolutely insane making this insane 2007 look like child's play. Nintendo will once again NOT meet demand because demand will be exponentially growing as they try to meet it. The games for next year along with all of the established library will push sales through the ROOF.

You gotta remember something. Wiis have hardly EVER BEEN SEEN in most stores around the world except in some portions of Europe. And despite this it has sold more than any console has in its first year or its first holiday season to holiday season EVER. With more Wiis seen in cases more sales will be made which will just keep this message board in utter shock.

I really fear for this board as Nintendo's ridiculous success will tamper with some people's sanity. Nintendo 2007 is nothing compared to Nintendo 2008. Be ready 'cause it's gonna be a doozy, brother.

Yes, the Wii will sell a lot more next year than this year.

and johnlucas, you forgot Mario Kart Wii. I expect that to sell like crazy too and I expect it to boost Wii sales just like the other games you posted. DD did outsell Melee. But can MKW outsell SSBB?....I have no clue!

yeah demand for wii in '08 will definitely be higher than this year. especially with wii fit, ssbb, and mario kart to bring in tons more casuals and hardcore gamers. they will definitely fill that 1.8 million monthly bill

end of '08 predictions: wii - 43 million,  360 - 25 million, ps3 - 20 million

Games I've beat recently: Super Mario Galaxy, Knights of the Old Republic, Shadow of the Collossus

I really don't see Nintendo decreasing production next year at all. They already sealed the Christmas momentum by gaining free media publicity. Wiifit is going to be a hit and then they have to worry about getting enough stock for China and South Korea. Next thing you know, it's the end of summer and Nintendo will have to worry about building up a Christmas stockpile. My guess is that if Nintendo might even have to ramp up production for China.

1.8m a month is not enough to satisfy existing demand, even in the slower months. Add WiiFit, SSBB, Mario Kart, Etc., etc. Wii will stay constantly sold out everywhere.

No one has seen the power this system has. And by that, I mean selling power. I know a lot of people who want a Wii but aren't about to go line up at 6:30am to get one. Once Wii are finally on store shelves for more than an hour or two, then regular people, not just gamers, will start getting it too. Much like the DS is mainstream in Japan, heading that way in Europe and starting to gain mainstream attraction in NA, Wii will too, except faster (as supply allows).

China/Korea/India, etc... Nintendo will need to increase production a lot more to supply them as well.
