Didn't we like discuss this like 2 years ago in that NPD thread?

I referenced it earlier.

Zasz really didn't want the PS3 to be in 2nd place that Month.

Good times.

Oh and on this $500m ad campaign for the holiday and kinect launch...

Guess how much Ninty spent in the same quarter?.... $429m  (with nothing new to say)

How'd you know this? Links?

And any news on what Sony spent?

Yeah like 10 dollars

That explains the LBP2 sales

Pika Pika!

GT5 week 10: 60k (5,453,675) ahead by 230k

GT4 week 10: 92k  (5,223,030)

Halo 3 week 20: 54k  (7,265,421)

REACH week 20: 36k  (7,723,729) ahead by 458k

Both are falling away in weekly comparisons but remain ahead in totals.

I'm gonna just come out and say it...I don't think that Halo Reach will beat Halo 3 in sales nor do I think GT5 will beat GT4 in sales unless they get bundled for quite some time.

Also how long will this less then 10k between each of the consoles last?!

Some people need to let it go and not let comments from the few 360 fans on this site bother them. 360 won this week by 6.5k.   Congrats on the extra 6500 consoles, i was one of them because of the stupid Rrod.  :(

Before christmas; "The Wii won't outsell the others this holiday season, it needs a price cut."

Holidays arrive, Wii sells very well; "HAH! Told ya! Wii doesn't need a price cut!"

January 2011 arrives, Wii drops like a rock; what now?

PS: Some people, me included, suggested that the Wii could have a stellar holiday and still start losing momentum horribly fast post-holiday and have a perilous 2011. This notion was scoffed at, it was believed that it would "carry the momentum from the holdiay season."

Seriously though, i don't see why anyone would even care. The gap is minuscule compared to the overall install base of the HD systems.

Okay, first this whole tie arguement.  If it's plus/minus 5% margin of error for the site then

  • if 360 is assumed to be on the low end of the margin of error we remove 5% to get 204,613
  • if PS3 is assumed to be on the high end of the margin or error we add 5% to get 219,264

So I guess it is a statistical tie going by the 5% plus/minus guidance of the site as it is possible within the margin of error to swap their position.  The site also estimates the 360 sold more this week so it's listed appropriately above the PS3.   All fine and dandy.

Can we stop arguing about it now?  It's a statistical tie but the 360 is estimated to be the higher seller.

Second, amazing how close all consoles are.  360 up of course which is good but of course confirms it was down prior to slim/Kinect and also confirms the positve effect those have had on the console, reversing its trend.  Good stuff.

PS3 down a bit but not much and looks to be holding well since the slim intro and price cut.  Good stuff.

Wii down the most therefore easy to think "doomed" but the Wii down a lot is still selling essentially the same as the 360/PS3 worldwide - hardly awful but clearly a definate down from its previous high.

Nice start for Dead Space 2 - just finished it and I liked it.  More thriller than horror, but well made and fun I thought - apart from a few nitpicks with some odd design decisions.

LBP2 doing okay, too.

Interesting to see that, Kinect Adventures aside - due to bundling of course - with the exception of Kinect Sports at 19 most Kinect/Move titles are dropping down out of the top of the chart leaving the Wii to hold the top spots for motion control titles - with Wii Sports Resort at 6 and Just Dance 2 at 8 for example.

There's no doubt Kinect has made a splash in US, and Move to a lesser extent seems to have carved out a niche more globally, but I'm not convinced either has established a true foothold just yet (yes even Kinect with 8m plus sales).  I think if  each device is to truly flourish we're going to need to see some seriously compelling standalone titles.  At this point both Kinect and Move could be easily abandoned over time while the Wii - even with lowered hardware sales - clearly isn't going anywhere soon and still shifts its evergreen titles in mighty numbers.

Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...

Forgot to quote this.

We don't have those old comparison graphs so its hard to see where Halo 3 and GT4 ended up weeks after this one but if they stayed constant beating GT4/Halo 3 seems unlikely for GT5 and Reach.

Right now I hope GT5 can at least beat GT2, preventing it from becoming the lowest selling GT game.

Yep, 360 won, get over it.

For PS3 fans there is no shame in this defeat. Don't forget that Kinect and a $1bn campaign was to help x360 "destroy" the competition from it's launch and through 2011. So far this year the WW gap is so close between the two that x360 fans are disappointed. The same x360 fans celebrated these close victories are the same that thought the gap would be much, much wider. Nothing wrong with that.

As for the wii it's still there. YOY it's falling but it has only fallen into the roughly the same sales figures as the others so if anyone think that x360 or PS3 is gaining any major ground is smoking the bad stuff, although combined the HD consoles will obviously close the gap.

lol.. its growing...

And even with the campaign EDD made $679million.

Do you even know what EDD is? When you have figured that out tell me how much of that profit x360 made. You don't know because MS never said. I am sure it made profit and please that it did but EDD (which consists of PC gaming, online stuff, aspects of MS office and Windows 7 etc.,) helped make that profit, not x360 on it's own.

@kowenicki

Did I ever stated that the gap between x360 and PS3 was not growing. I clearly stated that it was but not to the extent most ardent x360 supporters anticipated. I also mentioned so far this year the gap is minimal, approx 10k which is relatively nothing.

Yes, a gap is gap and a win is a win.
