Conduit in development for 3DS

High Voltage chief creative officer Eric Nofsinger has revealed to Eurogamer that the firm is currently working on bringing The Conduit series to 3DS.

According to the studio, development on the project is still in the early stages, what with the team putting the finishing touches on The Conduit 2 and all.

“Now that we’re winding things down a lot of our resources are on pulling this technology over to 3DS,” he said. “We are very much pulling over this engine and this technology on this new hardware.

“We’re still early. The resolution is definitely lower, but the screen real estate is smaller so it balances out. We’ve not had a lot of severe optimization yet, but we’re going to be able to have something very close to this [Conduit 2] on the 3DS probably by GDC.

“We’ve got environments from this already up and running around. You can shoot, you can select different weapons and you can see enemies. It runs pretty darn well with full 3D and everything.”

Nofsinger said the dev team is also excited about 3DS’s Friend Code which will give the firm a “serious leg up,” on the multiplayer.

“It’s quite different than developing for the DS and the DSi,” he said. “Developers like us that have more of a console experience on GameCube and on Wii are going to be able to take advantage of the 3D better and they’re going to be able to do a little bit more with the hardware than people who are coming at it from the straight DS angle and used to doing more 2D, or very limited 3D, kinds of things… We can be a shining star on this.”

Nofsinger also revealed that the firm is in talks with SEGA regarding the distribution of the product on 3DS.

“I would guess that SEGA will be interested,” he said. “I had a nice conversation just yesterday with their head of artist and repertoire. At DICE, the conference in Vegas that’s coming up, we’ll probably have some more chats.”

The Nintendo 3DS is due out in Europe on 25th March.

Sounds great. The earlier they create a presence on the 3DS, the better.

That's cool and all HVS, but give me The Grinder first and then you can do as you please

Awesome.

I bet many people were looking for an FPS on Wii when it was new, and unfortunately Conduit was too little too late.

But as an early FPS for 3DS, it would be perfect.

I LOVE ICELAND!

And THAT would be Sonys biggest fear right now, that only PS3 developers can afford, or understand, the tech of a PSP2. Im not saying power is bad, but i am saying its going to push alot of companies into choosing Wii/PS2/3DS dev kits, or the latter.

“When we make some new announcement and if there is no positive initial reaction from the market, I try to think of it as a good sign because that can be interpreted as people reacting to something groundbreaking. ...if the employees were always minding themselves to do whatever the market is requiring at any moment, and if they were always focusing on something we can sell right now for the short term, it would be very limiting. We are trying to think outside the box.” - Satoru Iwata - This is why corporate multinationals will never truly understand, or risk doing, what Nintendo does.

do you need to bring in ngp to this thread? has nothing to do with it, happens a lot these days. with false doom and gloom claims no less

and no just to answer devs have already said NGP is easy to program for, I suggest checking out some dev interviews, this is not something sony will have to feat, by any means

and console fps going to the 3ds? who would have thought!! anywho this is the first of the genre in the lineup right? should be interesting to see how it works out

I just want to see how Conduit 2 turns out on the Wii first. I never played the original Conduit, but I got the sense that it was a letdown for many. I stuck to Metroid (which I still need to finish!).

I do wonder if High Voltage will be able to push the 3DS' graphical capabilities at all. Maybe not, since the 3DS is new.
