Forums - Sales - EA Oct-Dec figures are in - lots of interesting data!

I just put EA figures up in an article.

GAAP: $1.053b revenue, $322m loss (both for Oct-Dec 2010)

5m level hits in 2010: Fifa, Madden, Bad Company 2, Medal of Honor, Need for Speed

Estimated Games Sold in Oct-Dec 2010:  PSP 1.2m, DS 2.9m, Wii 6.7m, PS3 9.4m, X360 9.5m, PS2 1.1m

HD SW Market: EA says it growing in the West, up 23% over Oct-Dec 2009, but Oct-Dec 2010 figures dropped 3% for HD SW from Oct-Dec 2009 to Oct-Dec 2010 for EA's games...

Lots more in the article (on Vgchartz, not on the network hub yet)

I remember when the EA logo alone meant that the game was worth buying...  Not so much anymore.

Still, they should have had a killer quarter.  Something is amiss at EA!

Well, Back in the early nineties, EA dominated what was then the casual market.  Sports games.  Oddly, the still own this segment, but people don't buy the new Madden/Fifa/whatever every year like they did back then.  There seems to be little innovation.  Now, as far as the other games, they were Electronic Arts.  They were one of the few companies that people actually associated with the developer's name, not just the game title/brand as it is now.  Today, call of duty is a brand - regardless of which developer/studio makes it.  Soon enough the same will be said of Halo.  So, when i say the name used to mean something, it's because it did(back in the day).

I'm not sure about Madden but I'm pretty sure FIFA is doing better now then it's ever been doing...

As for EA, er, it's very hard to really make sense of their results nowadays. They're just far too big of a company with so many different things, sounds like they're heading to profitability though which is good. They've got a long way to go to appease shareholders though.

The first impression i had of the EA Logo for me was that they killed one of my favorite Franchises: Ultima.

Then they never offered anything even remotely interesting to me, mostly because it was practically all sports back then.

only these last few years they have games i really want to buy and like.

“It appeared that there had even been demonstrations to thank Big Brother for raising the chocolate ration to twenty grams a week. And only yesterday, he reflected, it had been announced that the ration was to be reduced to twenty grams a week. Was it possible that they could swallow that, after only twenty-four hours? Yes, they swallowed it.”
