Forums - PC - Orange Box PC Help!

After gaming my whole life on consoles, I've finally bought a PC game. I got Orange Box as it doesn't have high spec requirements and i heard so much about Half-Life 2 AND Im liking how Portal 2 looks. :)

However i want to game on a game pad. It's a logitech dual action usb. I know "it's best to play on keyboard on mouse" but i want to play it on a gamepad.

Anyway, i was able to set up most of the control configuration; except the right analog to "look up and down". I can only look left and right with it! I tried for like an hour and wasn't able to get it to work.

Ive googled it and it seems people had the same problem but were able to get it going. But that's is the problem I DONT GET IT :P

I need simple step by step instructions for the computer noob :P.

Here are the links i have seen. There is no "+joylook" option when im in options.

I would just recommend using a keyboard/mouse :P

Or pick up an Xbox 360 controller (usb wired) and play with that.

Do you have an xbox controller that is wired

that works in most games from around 2006 onwards including the orange box for pc i believe

as for the gamepad just play around with the settings until you figure out what does what. I had to do that with an emulator and its gets tricky programing the buttons and leaning which numbers the buttons are

Of Course That's Just My Opinion, I Could Be Wrong

Yes but while doing research, people with the xbox controller had the same problem. Its only the look up and down right analog config. They managed to do it but i don't get how even with their instructions given.

Oh well ill just have to manage through the game alternating.

edit: stupid vgc removes plus symbols. I've used it with my pc, it works wired, no BT needed.

I don't really know much about this and certainly have no experience... But anyway.

In case you still want to try the Logitech pad, I suggest you manually edit your config file. The first like you provided seems to have something like that: Essentially you'll want to map the look up/down functions to the corresponding right stick actions. I don't know the exact wording but I imagine it's pretty similar to what you have for horizontal movement - you should be able to copy/paste it with minor adjustments. But like I said, I don't really have much experience with a problem like this.
