I don't really know much about this and certainly have no experience... But anyway.

In case you still want to try the Logitech pad, I suggest you manually edit your config file. The first like you provided seems to have something like that: Essentially you'll want to map the look up/down functions to the corresponding right stick actions. I don't know the exact wording but I imagine it's pretty similar to what you have for horizontal movement - you should be able to copy/paste it with minor adjustments. But like I said, I don't really have much experience with a problem like this.

Tried that. Im able to program the look up down control in options but when i play they don't work. Like i said i looked into it and people had similar problem but were able to fix it. It's ok though getting used to holding the game pad and using the mouse when needed.

why did you even get games for PC if you want to play them with a controler?

Ah see there you did answer my question. You want to alternate. which is a fair answer

and yeah I know you're the op, but sorry I didn't understand this:

"However i want to game on a game pad. It's a logitech dual action usb. I know "it's best to play on keyboard on mouse" but i want to play it on a gamepad."

as wanting to alternate.

just for lol I took a 360 controler to test your problem (win 7).... just started the game, went to options and under mouse ticked use gamepad... all was configured directly I didn't have to do a thing.

even for older versions such as the lost coast interface, in mouse it said use joystick... I ticked that and this time the left analog worked for the view up down left right.

I'm gonna guess the problem is your controler not the game... have you tried configuring it in windows through the control pannel (so not inside the game)?

Maybe so, Thanks anyway. I have a few options yet to try from other users including the ones you said above.

It's amazing how unhelpful some people can be here... you should have posted this on steam's forum, you would have gotten way more help imo.

Firstly did you create the joystick.cfg into your cfg folder for the game that you wanted?

It looks fairly simple really. Open a notepad and copy & paste the code that the dude kindly provided for you in the first link. Save the notepad as joystick.cfg (removing the .txt).

Then place it in you steam folder as follow: Steam SteamApps <username> portal portal cfg

You need to do this for each game it seems...
