I have to admit that they didn't show anything I didn't expect. Looks decent though. But since games are on cartridges and PS3 games are like at least 10 gig in size, wouldn't that make games really expensive? Could potentially be £50/$60-$70 per game? Like N64 games.

Can get 32 GB flash cards for $70 regularly these days. 16GB for $35. Prices are dropping fast.

That's still expensive and they haven't even got any data on them. Plus MGS4 is like 42 gig.

Those are retail prices for SD Cards. Manufacturing costs for ROM cards should be significantly less.

MGS4 may be 42GB for the PS3, but that's not what it will be for the PSP2. The textures are going to get scaled down, regardless that the resolution is pretty darn awesome for a handheld, it still pales in comparison to 1080p games meant for 32" screens. My guess is the textures could be cut in half or even more, along with some other changes, could be made to fit into a 16GB cart. I doubt we will see games costing more than $39, certainly no more than $49.

If they're bringing MGS4 to the NGP, they'll be compressing video and sound. The reason MGS4 took up so much space was because Kojima is a sound whore, and wanted uncompressed sound, so there is a lot to be gained, just by compressing sound.

Damn that's a good looking machine! Depending on price and games that are announced I'll most likely get one eventually.

It's obvious that over-engineering is all SCE knows how to do. It's like they have Homer Simpson in charge of product development.

Needs more cup holders and bubble domes, IMO.

They've been changing lately, and while I agree that the NGP might be a bit overkill, they've certainly gone out of their way to make it a nice piece of tech. Developers are praising it for how easy it is to program for and it's got the rear trackpad showing that Sony are actually trying to do something new with the device.

It's true, using standard smartphone tech instead of confusing developers with esoteric hardware is a shift. And I'm a little dubious as to how useful a rear trackpad will be, but it certainly is a unique idea.

This device just seems like it's throwing out features to see what sticks, while the mass market generally wants consumer electronics built with the KISS principle. Less is often more, especially in a device that's supposed to be portable. The Dell Streak has a 5" screen, and it's marketed as a tablet! Is this thing even pocketable if you aren't wearing cargo pants?

Wow thats beast!  How much will it cost?

The crossplay idea and remote PS3 control through 3G are very cool idea. Will give you access to a home server (your PS3) anywhere you are. I wander if it will be available in america. I also think that, if port are easy, devs will include free NGP download coupon with their PS3 games.

In any case, its not PSP all over again. PSP was trying to do regular console game with only 1 analogue. Regular console game will be perfectly fine on NGP, a lot funnier then mini games to me. Also, the synergy between PS3 and NGP wasnt present in the PSP days.

Alright that sounds better, wasn't really looking forward to paying £50 for games again. Plus you're probably right that the scaled down textures won't be as noticeable on a smaller screen.

Just to add to this, MGS4 is really the exception rather than the rule. Most multiplat games on PS3 manage to compress on 6.8Gb of a 360 DVD so I think the majority of games will only need 8Gb carts max.

Obviously, Square Enix and Kojima games would probably be exceptions (and possibly Bioware if they release anything).

I wouldn't say that this will automatially end the 3ds, or that the 3ds will end this. It will be a pretty close fight *if* Sony prices it right and decides to support it. The suppot may not be a problem, but with the tech they are cramming in it, I don't see this thing going any cheaper than US$300, unless they sell it at a loss.

- The Sony Advantage

I see Sony with an advantage over the 3DS because brand recognition, and how most hardcore gamers prefer Sony over Nintendo. In other words, this could be a GameCube-like situation for Nintendo (only they have the weaker sysem now). Nintendo tries hard to win over the hardcore audiance with games and support, but they just get eclipsed  by Sony in the end due to brand recognition.

Long Story Short: An advantage Sony has over Nintendo is that hardcore gamers prefer them over Nintendo.

- The Nintendo advantage

Nintendo's advantage over Sony is well, the 3DS's 3d. I think that casuals will want to see how it works and maybe the hardcore too. If stuff like that can win over gamers, combined with 3d movies, classic Nintendo franchises, and games, Nintendo may be able to hold its own despite weaker hardware.

Long Story Short: Nintendo innovation always wins.

BOTTOM LINE: Both companies havetheir advantages. The war will escalateat E3 as new games are announced, and should be one hell of a fight.

This device can succeed in my opinion with only one thing. exclusive call of duty game bundled at release. think about it. One of the biggest franchises ever coming to your hands wherever you go. and im not talking about the crappy DS quality COD games. this is the first portable with dual analog. the perfect way to play FPS on the go. once people start to see the call of duty console experiance going portable, plus 3g enabling to play online anywere. it will pump up the sales. just becouse of call of duty.

mmmmm sounds good... kind of expensive. Let's wait for final confirmations.... maybe a year or 2 after release i'll get one. It depends on the games it will be getting.... so far, nothing for me. God of War maybe later on?
