But by the looks of things the PSP2 is looking like an end of 2011 launch, obviously can effect the price a lot in a year, not to mention Sony will likely sell at a loss anyway.

Well if it's that long to relase, CES 2012 will be right around the corner and the next generation of technology could make it look like yesterday's device before the thing even gets off the ground.

Remember its main purpose is a "Gaming Device" it doesn't have to have google maps and android etc, as long as it's a good gaming machine and has great games. There's only two other big competitors, Nintendo and Apple, and really by the looks of thing the PSP2 is going to have the hardcore market again, so that's a plus.

To the people bitchin about over priced.

Could you post all the parts individually and how much they cost to see the total?

How can we price the quad core ARM 9 when it doesn't exist? *starts his delorean*

Be creative we know all the other parts don't we? I don't need an exact number.

All the high end smart phones are around $600 retail. You can start from there I guess.

The PSP2 is not a phone, the PSP Phone is a phone.

When the PSP released in 2004 it had high specs and was better then most phones and yet it was 200 bucks, so I wouldn't be shocked to see the PSP2 at $300 with those specs.

It is possible for Sony to produce a system like this that would sell for $300, but it probably couldn't be released until late 2012; and leaving the successor to the market leading console for 18 months to build a userbase, develop a large library, and to reduce costs to a level where they can (significantly) undercut your price would be dramatically worse than releasing a $400 portable.

The dev kits were only handed out late fall, you think there going to make a PSP2 (supposely HD) game in less then a year? I doubt it, I see the PSP2 releasing during the fall - holidays of 2011.

If this turns out to be the case, and Sony really is using hardware like this, I would anticipate Sony launching this device at $400 to $500 while probably taking a $100 to $200 loss per system. This would put the PSP2 starting to be manufactured within days of the first quad core ARM processor that is energy efficient enough to put into a mobile device beginning manufacturing; which would translate into a massive premium, potentially up to $200 per system sold on the CPU alone.

Traditionally, console's have aimed for the sweet-spot where you get the best performance for the price because as you push performance higher costs begin to increase at an exponential rate; until you're at the bleeding edge where a CPU can cost upwards of $1500 (typically PC or Server CPU)

That'd be pretty serious taking a $100 - $200 loss,  that didn't exactly help them with the PS3, and I don't think they want to go through that all over again.

Either way this is ALL rumors and the truth will be told in a little over an hour so let's wait...hopefully I can stay awake!

while true, there is a HUGE difference.  People aren't paying $600 for those phones.  They are getting them sub $200 at most for signing a two year contract with the wireless provider

wondering how this android os if true affects the price.  hell just got new phones in our family and were surprised to see that it costs us $20 a month more per phone for it being android.

How cow! If these specs are true, than it will pretty much blow the 3DS outta the water. But if we've learned anything about this handheld generation, it's that graphics down sell a system. The PSP2 is gonna need some seriously good games to be able to compete with Nintendo. If this thing costs $399 upon launch, then I don't see it selling a ton of hardware. I think the average consumer will ask, "Well, does it have 3D?" When they find the answer is "No", then they will probably look the other way. Hate to say it, but you can thank Avatar for that. I still think that 3D is a passing fad. But with the advent of the 3DS getting 3D in consumer's hands, it'll definitely help push 3D to be cemented as a viable feature to be impliment in standard products.

I also think think it's important to realise that even though those specs say "512 RAM", you have to remember that it probably won't be able to output as many textures as the 360 or PS3. PSP specs say it has 32 Mb of RAM, but when you look at the textures, they don't compare very well to PS2 textures. We'll have to see to be able to confirm this, but I bet this will be the case.

I don't know why people tell me to get a life. I'm a gamer, I have lots of lives!

would make more sense using a quad-core tegra.

No 3D?

Hope not... :S I really don't want it to have it or at least for something like that to be PSP2's main point of attraction

You know, with the 3ds you can switch the 3d on and off,so there's really no excuse of not adding it to this system

Hmm....I wish i was excited about this but meh, looking at how the first psp that I bought let me down, after 6 years i think Ill finally buy a ds,and it will be the 3ds.

Sorry,I like my ps3 A LOT but sony handhelds dont interest me anymore

I bought a PSP for Monster hunter fredom, and next for Monster hunter 3 Portable, the second stick sounds great for that, (No more index numbness...) but I am not going to pay  >$300 for that... I might get it once the price goes down to $250 or so... But iwith those specs I dont expect anything below $300, so I may need to wait 2 years or so, if not more...
