Pretty much.
People seem to write off Wii games long before they've finished selling, and MP3 is no different. When you look at the top quality 9+/10 hardcore Wii games, you'll see they simply never disappear from the sales charts.
One year on from it's launch Twilight Princess is still racking up 30k sales every week worldwide, and Resident Evil 4 is somewhere in the 25k region. These spikes don't even seem to be due to the Christmas rush, it's just happening as time passes.
While Metroid Prime 3 will probably sell less week in week out then those games listed above, chances are it'll still see high sales for many months to come in the new year. I think after it gains some extra spikes from Smash Bro's release, next years Christmas and price reduction it'll easily be passed 2m rivaling the original for best selling in the Prime series.

Metroid Prime 3 will never get near the sales of MP1. Thats a given. Will it beat 2? Simple answer is Yes. When? Early next year.
I'm guessing it'll do around 1.5 million total but if it's lucky it might just get around that 2 million mark.

THE NETHERLANDS
they need to get that game in the Kiosk... most people don't realize what it is, especially Wii owners...

add me, the more the merrier.
Its a great game, but its no Metroid IMO. They should have turned it into a full FPS, and marketed it to the FPS crowd.
I would loved to have seen Metroid 2, with the art direction (levels are bland), polish, and controls from Metroid 3.
One day I may write up my concept ideas for what they *should* have done for Metroid on the Wii (3D in general).

@Sullla: Yes, but expectations were largely based about MP3 being the game, which proves how Wii works in first person games and people would be exited about that. Well it did prove the controls, but were still left short about peoples sales expectations. It could propably see good sales, if Nintendo would decide to advertize it, let's say for example in Q2 2008. I'm not anyway expecting it to be advertized.

Nintendo games sell only on Nintendo system.
Metroid sells well. But it doesn't sell "Nintendo Core Franchise" well. They'll beat MP2 in sales and should exceed a million copies. That's a success in everyone's book. Unless you expect it to beat SMG in sales...
There is no such thing as a console war. This is the first step to game design.
i never realized that metroid games aren't huge sellers. obviously they are very good sellers but pretty much every metroid game is touted as one of the best games of its generation and they are one of nintendo's main franchises yet the only sell 1.25 - 2.75 million each outing. the metroid series probably has the highest quality games of any franchise (metroid considered one of the best on the NES and still great today, super metroid usually considered one of the best games ever, metroid prime considered one of the best games last gen, metroid prime 2 very good, metroid prime 3 maybe the best of the primes) so the sales are surprising. i hope as more hardcore gamers get the wii over the next year or two it will drive up mp3 sales. i still haven't even bought it so hopefully theres lots more people like me who don't have it yet but is still a must buy
end of '08 predictions: wii - 43 million, 360 - 25 million, ps3 - 20 million
Games I've beat recently: Super Mario Galaxy, Knights of the Old Republic, Shadow of the Collossus
