wait, from my playing there was 0 element of luck dealing with weapon upgrades, 0.  If you knew what to do (either through experimentation or looking it up) you knew exactly what to spend and what to get.

Yes there is a little bit of luck to get "better loot" from enemies so it would take you less time to upgrade weapons, but that in no way means that luck plays any part in weapon upgrades, just the time it takes for you to get them.  And in reality, you only needed to farm ingots if you were going for trophies/achievements.  In my normal playthrough I was able to get 2 of my "main" chars to their ultimate weapons without any sort of grinding.

no luck?  Well you had to guess what tools would do what, and sometimes things would give you bonuses and sometimes the EXACT same thing wouldn't. You could never know what weapons would be useful, it was a complete guessing game. 

as for Oblivion, well I'm really into it, I'm loving it, but I have no idea what to do or where to go, I want to join guilds and do sidequests but I can't find anything...I'm sure once I get to know the game better my opinion will entirely change.

Uh yes, no luck in upgrades whatesoever.  Each item gives and uses X/Y amount of "bonus" and Z amount of exp.  Players can (at least I did) figure out that each item gives X amount of *something* which, at a threshold of Y the bonus increases.  And given that fact, the player could, after some work, deduce how much each of each item was needed to get to the next "bonus tier."

I will say that, yes, the amount of "bonus" that an item would give you and the amount of "bonus" an item would eat up was not clearly given (as it shouldn't be, part of the fun was figuring out what items did what) but there is a formula to it all and is definitely, 100% not "luck".

Hell, even if you didn't want to do some of the legwork yourself like I did, there are countless guides on the interwebz showing the formulae/thresholds.  I don't see how luck comes into play with the weapon upgrades at all, care to enlighten me?

It's definitely a game design decision which you may or may not like (not giving explicit numbers or informing as to what weapon combines with what accessories to the user), but not luck by any means. It just takes a little bit of exploration with items. All in all, I don't see how a game design of "not explicitly showing some information" becomes "luck." Perhaps I am missing something.

 Ok, I'll stop with the walls of text.  But in all seriousness, I don't see where luck comes into play when it comes to upgrades and weapons, that's all.  I can PM him, sorry :)

very disappointing game, =[ whats really hurts is that i went to the UK launch day and got a signed copy of this game.

and i treasure all my final fantasy games, i've owned every single one including spin offs (and will own all the ones releasing soon >_> ) , but damn i wish i can like this game a bit more....

i think if u give it a fair shake u might like it, i though loved it.
