QFN = Quoted for Nonsense.
My themeforest portfolio:
Well when the price of the ps3 was dropped in the US, the UK got a 3 game bundle instead. So i got 3 games for free with my ps3 (which i sold the same day- my ps3 is a blu ray player)
And these bundles were on for months, tons of people had motorstorm (i think thats the name of the racing game), genji and the army warfare game for free; id say in the uk atleast 2 or 3 months of ps3 sales included these.
In the US there was just a price cut. So i think this explains the high attatch rate.
Not to mention practically every console owner in the UK buys either FIFA or Pro Evo for thier console
(for the record i own all 3 consoles. No games on the PS3 but about 10 blu rays, on the wii i have 4 games but also about 10 more i bought for younger cousins & on the 360 i have about 5 games) Im much more of a WoW player/DS player.
There isn't a single reason you can pick, but there are few big reasons why PS3 does so good in Europe.
1. Brand recognition. These are the people who got PSX ten years ago. PSX had few hit games, which sold the system along it's "massive" amount of shovelware. Marketing for PSX and it's hit games was really massive, everyone knew what "the 3rd place" was. And games like Gran Turismo, which offered something that wasn't seen before (a lot of licenses, high variety of cars in different classes which you could tune up and race against more powerful cars) and the "super-casual" Tekken, did appeal to non-gamers. Actually, if you notice, PSX expanded market (only) in Europe by 30M.
Now these people buy PS3, since Playstation is the "only" gaming system they know of. Especially since "Playstation" has become synonyme for gaming, just like "Nintendo" became ten years earlier.
People also are used to seeing some certain series as PS exclusives, considering them equal to 1ts party games, and they assume that these games will be exclusives to PS in the future. Or multiplatform games are seen as exclusives, since the previous Playstations have been so popular, that the version with highest profile have been the PS version. And "everybody knows that all the games will be on Playstation".
2. This propably would have fit in the "1.", but there's a lot of retailers that basically sell only Playstation -branded consoles (this has a lot to do with "1."), they either have small shelf space for other consoles (although 360 has got pretty good space), or just don't sell others (the supermarkets etc.). And this takes a lot of time to change.
3. The poor former eastern block countries, which economy have been rising, where people see everything expensive as luxury items, with what you show to people how much you can afford and are seen as something that bring luxus to your life. It's not that the people would be jerks, it's just the culture, caused by poverty, with rising economy, people are starting to afford everything expensive.
4. Localisation. Sony uses a shitload of money to localise their games, thing that EA has been doing years with their popular franchises, Sony even dubs their games to different languages (this propably is seen a good thing in countries like Germany, where they are used to see movies and TV-series dubbed, when the smaller countries are used to subtitles). But, they localise all their games to different languages.
5. Less competition from M$. Although 360 has got somekind of foothold from certain markets (mainly UK and Scandinavia), it's games are mostly the kind of games that sell in the NA, but not Europe and since most of the games are ported to PC, it doesn't exactly boost 360 sales. M$ is also seen as "the devil itself" in Europe. Can't blame the people, i have used Windows. And it's issues with EU fining them doesn't help either. A lot people are also pissed to M$ about the Vista prices (they have to somehow get the money for their fines).
So, when looking at things, you shouldn't ask why is it doing so badly outside Europe, you should ask why does PS3 do so good in Europe.
Ei Kiinasti.
Eikä Japanisti.
Vaan pannaan jalalla koreasti.
Nintendo games sell only on Nintendo system.

I'm sorry, but even in the UK salaries are lower than the US, taxes are up to 30% of average income, and the consoles/games cost far more than their US equivalents.

People buy PS3 because its the best.People here dont want fucking online fees ,MS products or consoles that RROD on you with a 30% probabilyty, dont want buying extra hard drive,hd dvd player. or official 360 accesories when on the PS3 you can use PC ones.PSX and PS2 had the greatest libraries and of the highest quality and the PS3 will have the same.If they want to play 360 games they just buy the cheaper and better PC version
for the name . people don't talk about" video games" , they talk about "playstation".
and microsoft has lot of pc games...
1) He caused last week spikes !
2) The word Game console = Playstation in many countries in europe because the brandname is so familiar.
And a Portable console = Nintendo due the gameboy.
You have many people that say I might get a Nintendo for my son / daughter his / here birthday. That means they will get a gaming console. If you ask people do you know what an Xbox is if they don't understand you many people explain that an xbox is a playstation from MS.

European media is influenced by their American counterparts, but the effect is greatly reduced. I can only imagine how dead PS3 would be right now if it had been the one dying massively due to a design flaw like the RROD affecting the x360. MS is known to have played dirty before in almost every ocasion they had to compete with someone. DR-DOS, Wordperfect, Apple, Netscape come to mind quick. Why do people think now is any different? The most pathetic example was the paid actor in Fox News claiming he had sent a dusty PS3 and Sony's technical support didn't want to repair it due to the excess of dust... Another possible reason would be the we Europeans don't have any local vendor of consoles, so we don't favour any system due to chauvinist reasons as both American and Japanese seem to do at least to some extent. I started this generation buying a 360, but I have to admit that I'm glad it will most probably end 3rd this time WW as the campaign ignited by MS is really disgusting to see. Also I don't love shooters nor paid online, so selling the 360 and buying both a Wii and a PS3 is my way to contribute to keep the gaming industry as I prefer it: dominated by Japanese, who have long shown a great creativity and passion for excellence as developers. |
Bless you sir.
