damn you nintendo and your schemes to make us fit D: lol

seriously: i don't like taking my ds everywhere( especially if i have no intent of playing it) because i am afraid i might lose or it might get stolen or it might get scratched more than normal. Maybe i am being a little paranoid but i am not comfortable taking something that expensive everywhere with me D:

I agree my DS:Lite or DSi are never with me I don't like carrying them. Put the DSi in my pocket once and sat down on it wrong. Now theirs a crease down the top screen. When I pay that much for a device I want to make sure it is safe so I always carry it in my bag. Also this whole always on thing doesn't fly with me the whole time its always on its draining battery life. With 5-hours of battery life I don't care to have it wasted while I'm not even playing the device.

Of course pick pockets and theives are another concern such an expensive product I'd hate to get it stolen or lost. Its not like a cell phone to my knowledge it can't be traced or bricked like an I-Phone or something. You loose it its gone.

Some people may not mind I mean many walk around with cell phones far more expensive. But I myself don't want to carry it in my pant pocket. Already wrecked one screen doin that.

Maybe this has been mentioned already, but this goes hand in hand with that feature where you can pass information from 3DS to 3DS just by walking past someone that is carrying it, even if it is off.  By rewarding people to carry their 3DS around with them, its going to help along that other feature too.

I'm wondering if this is the extent of the system's social features, similar to the DS which always had local chat, this would have a local achievements system and a local gamertag to help keep track of who you pass in real life (now it would be odd to have that and not have it extend online, but it would be totally Nintendo)

This is a cool idea but it still doesn't change the fact that the 3DS still lacks a centralized user ID that can show you your progress on the games you've completed and a good history of the things you've accomplished to compare with your friends.  A cool concept but still lacking compared to the 360's Achievements and PS3's Trophys.

I don't understand why Nintendo doesn't make a centralized account.  It seems like a basic thing in modern gaming.

This is a fact? Have you got a link to support this?

No i'm just basing it off all info released so far.  If it does end up having one that is awesome and a huge positive for the system.  In fact the lack of one is the main reason I'm considering not buying one until they price drop later on.

I'm not trying to turn this into a Nintendo vs other companies thread at all because I think the 3ds looks great I just find it a bad business decision to not have a centralized ID with game tracking like the other systems currently have.  If it adds one in that is awesome news.

why would you need an online ID for a portable system when there is not free wifi all over the world yet? how would that benefit us in any way? the point of an online id is so people can search and play with friends on the fly, why the hell are you sitting there playing your 3DS at home when you can play on actual consoles or a PC? comparing progress is comparing on who has more "no life" value, how's that a good thing to compare?

Well this is better than achievements, keeping fit and healthy is a better achievement than PSN or XBL achievements well played Nintendo!  and I like walking for miles too.

Everybody has their Mii and a name for it that identifies who they are. And if it keeps track of the games you play and things you unlock I do not see how far this is from being a “achievement” sort of thing plus the walk tracker.

The Mii is you (Miiou?) which is your account name which has all the info of what you have played.

No friend-codes guys!!! Or maybe if you want to play online but then you would have maybe the system code only but that is not such a bad thing. But I am sure your Miiou will be the only thing you need now

So basically developers create some extras for every game and force you to walk a few steps to unlock it....

doesn't make any sense.

I fail to see the point of criticizing Nintendo fans for doing this kind of stuff when others do it just as much, if not more.

On topic, this is genius in terms of getting people to take their handhelds everywhere and play together, which Nintendo always tries to do with their handhelds. 3DS may finally manage to make a video game console every man's constant companion.

Do as I say. Not as I do.

No you play games and earn coins and if you walk you can earn them as well and then you can use them to unlock things. And if you meet people things will unlock as well. This is what I understand out of all the things I have seen plus this walking thing
