Forums - Nintendo - The 3DS is missing one key thing

OT - achievments/trophies are great but more importantly is the user profile.  friend codes are the suck,...you need that profile if you want to be able to easily find and interact with friends.  i never realised just how important that was until i got my ps3 but now it a deal breaker -- i absolutly need that ability.

Nintendo not even having an account for you is one of the reasons why I don't buy games from their online stores. If they can't let me redownload my games if I need to, then I won't buy them in the first place.

Actually, you can redownload your games for free.

it's tied to the cosole though not to you.  if you wanted to upgrade to a newer model or replace one with a impending hardware failure you are SoL and loose all of your games.  360 and ps3 have ways to transfer your info should you choose to upgrade your hardware.

Like Rainbird said, call Nintendo.  Not a fun step to take but it works.  Also helps to have your collection registered with Nintendo.   I'm not saying it's a good system or that they shouldn't go to a universal log in system but saying you can't transfer your games is false.

The rEVOLution is not being televised

Only core gamers care about achievements. The majority of the expanded audience wouldn't even know what they are let alone care.

i know a coulple "expanded audience" peoples that only know achievements via the iphone.  they may not be as obsessed with achievements as i am but they do like them and have bragged to me about that.  feeling good about being told you are doing a good job is a pretty universal thing whether you are causual or core.

the terms of your agreement when purchasing a game on wii ware or the virtual console is tied to the machine not the user.  yes, there have been cases where calling nintendo you can convience them to bend the rules but nintendo can and has said no to customers as well.

a system that requires you to call and plead for them to make an exception is not a system.

And if you read my post, you'll note that I agree.  It's not a good system (or system at all as you say).   But I've never found a single person that didn't have their games and consoles registered get rejected by Nintendo yet.

I agree completely not to mention they haven't improved the online really at all.  I find it amazing that Nintendo haven't caught onto this yet.  The achievement system is awesome and online is the way of the future and yet Nintendo still seems like they don't know what to do in these areas.

I'm hyped for the 3ds for sure but if PSP2 has Trophy support and a great online service its going to be the far more attractive product for many core gamers.

We'll see, it's not that big, if you look at my below thread...

Though I see your point. They should get on the bandwagon, but I dont think it's too key for the handheld...

Here lies the dearly departed Nintendomination Thread.

The only people who really seem to care about achievements are PS3/360 fans. The general Nintendo audience and the expanded audience don't seem to care for them much at all so I doubt it would be worth the effort.

Probably because they don't have them. Sony fans didn't care much about achievements... until the PS3 got trophies. If Nintendo instituted "stickers" or somesuch, they'd be a huge deal.

I agree with twesterm. The 3DS was the perfect opportunity to introduce not only an achievement system, but a revamped and more robust online in general. Seems like a big missed opportunity.

To be fair, Nintendo's been pretty silent on the 3DS' online in general. I don't think there's yet been a solid confirmation of whether or not friend codes are coming back, even. Might be something they'll emphasize more in the Western pre-launch shindig (the 19th), or not

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

Achievements/trophies are fun but I would like the option to hide those everyone else. Yes, when I play online I don't want anyone else to see my trophies. I don't think either PS3 or 360 have option to hide achievements or trophies from public (at least PS3 doesn't seem to have one).
