I thought they were doomed.

They are, 7 million is doomed remember...

Of course, the doomed relates to the PSP. Which I assume is doomed

I'm disappointed somewhat.

They need to restart the whole buying momentum, and just the 2011 games we know about now won't do it, a redesign should do it.

Just remember, this time last year we didn't know about The Last Story, Skyward Sword, 3DS, Donkey Kong Country returns, Kirby's Epic Yarn, Sonic Colours, Goldeneye 007, Wii Party, Conduit 2, HOTD : Overkill 2...

So yeah. I wouldn't judge your views on this year from Nintendo just yet

Also, I wouldn't say the best selling console of the year with more than 3-4 million sales above its nearest competitor is losing momentum, isn't this what the press release is saying? They'll do fine next year, and they've done fine next year. And they'll be great games this year as well. Don't worry about that!

If I want Nintendo sales PR,  I'll just go into the hardware charts for the week

Dont know where some of you are coming up with numbers.

According to VGC through December 25th Wii sales stand at 40,060,381. Assuming a 50% drop this last week then VGC numbers would be roughly 40.5 million.

Its libraries that sell systems not a single game.

Dear Conegamer,

Nintendo doesn't have a killer app, I'm talking about things like New Super Mario Bros. Wii and Mario Kart Wii, not the games you mentioned. They need the system redesigned or a new version.

I see your point, but Conegamer is right, the games you mentioned such as NSMBW and DKCR weren't revealed until E3 and were released few months later during that same year,I seriously doubt Nintendo won't have a nice surprise for E3 in 2011, and I expect some type of special edition Wii because of the 25 years of Zelda (this is just me assuming).

Wii has now made it through 5 Christmas seasons!  It has done very well.  I think 2011 will be just fine as well.  3rd party games are selling very well on Wii right now.  Hopefully developers see this trend and release a few more top-quality games for 2011-- although we probably won't get another Epic Mickey or Goldeneye.

Wii will be just fine in 2011, as long as they have more games planned than they are revealing now.  A price-cut should also keep momentum going.  Great job Wii-- the Wii should end up being one of the longer-lived Nintendo systems when all is said and done.

Most anticipated games of 2011:

Uncharted 3,Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword, Rocksmith

Modern Warfare 3, Super Mario 3D

What NPD numbers for December 2010 ?

I'm pretty sure they haven't released anything yet

The 2.3 NPD estimate is based on 4.7 through November. To get to 7 million they would sell 2.3 in December (actually through Jan 1).

So WII is way overtracked? I think 360 may outsell WII in Dec NPD.
