I don't think you know how deliberate thread derailment works. Some threads are poised to get nasty, because the original post is either poor or just asking for it. In that case it's hard to get a good discussion started, because the basic premise is already flawed. Since the mods usually don't step in before things get bad (as they don't spend time reading all the threads that are in progress), it's for the best to basically kill off the thread by derailing it, because trolls preferably jump into threads that contain serious discussion on the topic at hand. Bugrimmar's GT5 thread fizzled out without any big harms happening while toastboy's Kinect thread that wasn't derailed just kept getting worse. |
Actually, they just don't want too. Well at least Tor doesn't anyway, I always ask for him to calm down threads and he says until someone starts getting out of hand he "can't" do anything??!
It's like waiting for a class of children to start setting fire to the tables before telling them off ... I have always believed if the mods were more hands on and "visable" stoping arguments from happening in the first place, or just putting friendly warnings in threads to clam things down a little, a lot less crap would happen.
That and some common sense when judging obvious stealth trolling, not you though rol, I think everything you say is actually with good intentions.
