Forums - Website Topics - Looks like the trolling is making a lot of gamers silent!

To me, it's usually something to get a chuckle at, because many times it's posters spouting personal theories while ignoring facts. That's usually pretty funny. Where it gets troubling is when people make threads in response to a thread that they just strongly disagree with (and then it turns into a downplay fest). Bugrimmar's GT5 sales thread wasn't the worst I've seen here (although I did see where some of the complaints from reasonable posters came from), but then people looking just to cause trouble showed up and compared games that aren't even in the same ballpark as GT5, just to further show insecurity (or took the topic completely away from the games because the subject was hard to deal with).

I don't think you know how deliberate thread derailment works. Some threads are poised to get nasty, because the original post is either poor or just asking for it. In that case it's hard to get a good discussion started, because the basic premise is already flawed. Since the mods usually don't step in before things get bad (as they don't spend time reading all the threads that are in progress), it's for the best to basically kill off the thread by derailing it, because trolls preferably jump into threads that contain serious discussion on the topic at hand.

Bugrimmar's GT5 thread fizzled out without any big harms happening while toastboy's Kinect thread that wasn't derailed just kept getting worse.

Actually, they just don't want too. Well at least Tor doesn't anyway, I always ask for him to calm down threads and he says until someone starts getting out of hand he "can't" do anything??!

It's like waiting for a class of children to start setting fire to the tables before telling them off ... I have always believed if the mods were more hands on and "visable" stoping arguments from happening in the first place, or just putting friendly warnings in threads to clam things down a little, a lot less crap would happen.

That and some common sense when judging obvious stealth trolling, not you though rol, I think everything you say is actually with good intentions.

@OP what does it matter, don't like the thread, then don't click read it are click on it. Me personally I like what I like, but I don't hate on any other person's choice, there's no reason to. People can hate on something all they want, but at the end of the day I'm still going to play what I play and do what I do.

@ OP  There is a flaw in your post when you claim that trolling is way up despite a weak Asian following.

Where did you get these numbers?  They must be UNDERTRACKEDZZ.

Maybe I should start a counter thread...

*smashes fist on desk*

Why is that? Are Asians innocent?

(note: In all truth, my wit slipped during that line)

I'm wondering if some people actually clicked the two links on the bottom.

I did, again what does it matter to you what people post. I would'nt post something like that, because I don't feel the need to justify what I like, but how does it effect you? If the mods felt like they were unacceptable threads, then they would have locked them are you could have just reported them yourself. Vgchartz can't always be an utopia of gaming bliss, you have to take the bad with the good. It's just not a big deal to me personally,so that's my two cents.

I do not think that different opinions always net a ban, but there are instances in which they do.

I just like posters to be as honest as possible, which is why I lurk on N4G, especially once they got rid of the Open Zone.

I have also been here for over 3 years and I remember the likes of Gebx, who was obviously anti-sony, although almost everything he posted was actual news articles, yet he was banned many times for what was considered "flamebait" just because of his console preference.

You can't tell me you don't remember instances like that.

It is just like Pizzafacegamer now. He is so obviously anti-sony and posts tons of anti-sony threads, yet I don't really think they are always worthy of bans just because it is always negative.

Someone has to bring the negative news. Nobody would expect the pro sony guys to do it right?

That's really not a good example, because he himself admitted to searching the web for negative Sony news articles to post them on the VGC forum and get a rise out of the Sony fanbase.

Neither is PIzzaFaceGamer, because what he does easily adds up over time. Someone who is notorious for doing something will eventually get banned, because it's obvious to everyone what his intentions are.

Wow, of all the people to bring up Gebx it's Euphoria ...

So you're saying that Euphoria is close to the likes of Gebx?

Come on man, at least try to be fair here. Gebx was one of the worst members on VGC, just like Crazzyman was as well.

Euphoria is one of the most fair members here. Just because you don't like some of his threads (I still remember the feud you and a lot other 360 fans had with him just because he was posting all kinds of Kinect threads, positive or negative), it doesn't make him any less fair.

At least Euphoria contributes the same for every side, be it with positive or negative threads. Unlike many of the members here.

And yet, you think this was serious? Come on now. It was just a light-hearted take on the two threads and things happening in general.

I have a wii, so I haven't been interested in sales for a year or two.  I keep coming back for the free beer and the stimulating conversation.

...before it's time to hit the big city?

I have all three consoles, and am mainly a PsWii guy, so sales don't worry me at all.
